I did a search in safari on ddg the other day, then repeated it in the ddg browser… and the results were different and the ddg browser ones much better! Weird! Only a sample of one, though, of course

@dansup@mastodon.social I dont think this works as is: step 2 is "choose platform". The naive user has _no idea_ on platforms. How are they supposed to choose here? I would suggest that as a _last_ step, with preselecting all as the default IMHO :) (why would anyone be selecting by technology anyway?!?!) (and, definitely, if you get only one choice in step 2 it should be skipped completely. I picked 'photography" when experimenting, and got only pixelfed and assumed it meant the main pixedfed instance, not the technology...) but love the concept!!!!! :)

If im understanding you correctly, it sounds like thats what you want? It was basically a “help with coding” tool. It recently rewrote itself completely into a generic AI tool… and then a month later closed. I cant help but wonder… Is this the start of the great collapse?

@frogglin @david my unsupported theory is: nerds are the ones who know about things while geeks are the ones who can do things. So nerds will be able to quote movies, discuss philosophy and other stuff, perhaps we could call it “the Arts”; and geeks can setup your server, write some nice code and develop a theory of relativity - so, science and engineering. Clearly there will be some overlap, but thats my headcanon :)

@NewtonMark@eigenmagic.net the reporting doesn’t seem to have caught up with the, what, decade old change from “just vote [1] and the we’ll use that candidate’s preferences” - but i wonder if it comes from a belief that people vote according to “their” party’s preference sheet? (And i wonder if people actually do that. They might, most people are pretty dumb…. :( )
