There has been some Mastodon discussion about whether it is appropriate to refer to techbros and transphobes as “motherfuckers”.

Alas, I feel that we may now be in a position where it is more likely appropriate (and, unfortunately, apposite) to refer to them as “kiddiefuckers”.

@xgranade@wandering.shop The one ray of hope I've had for corporate tech has been my Steam Deck. It's just been… some good hardware? And reliable software, with a genuine Linux desktop built into it? And the tech stack has been created by directly funding independent open source developers? It feels like a doorway into a parallel dimension where Google and Doubleclick didn't merge.

@whitequark Labour's actual achievements in government don't make people angry, so no-one is interested in reporting on or discussing them. So far Mr Starmer's government has been a *massive* net improvement on the preceding Tory government, especially for working people. But it is impossible to ignore the continuing British institutional xenophobia, transphobia and Zionism. It's all anyone will remember. @RejoinEU

@ChuckMcManis@chaos.social I often don't understand some new-to-me code, so I rewrite parts of it. This helps me develop enough understanding to be able to go back to the original code and make my changes, without having to check in my partial rewrite. I think it's a useful tool for overcoming Chesterton's Fence. But only if you understand that that is what it is. I've been in one, highly successful, feature rewrite project. It took years and enormous diligence. @darkuncle@infosec.exchange @lcamtuf@infosec.exchange

The #KDE 6.6 desktop window tiling/organisation features are greatly superior to those of the Windows 11 desktop.

The KDE window manager is much better at inferring what you're trying to do with your window layout, which gives more flexibility.

I also find that windows get "unstuck" from the tiled layout less often than with Windows 11.

@jalefkowit@vmst.io I'm struggling to understand how someone can have a starring role in the unambiguously antifascist TV series ‘Andor’ and then turn around and completely miss the point of ‘Animal Farm’. I guess it demonstrates that you can be an outstanding actor and also incredibly politically naïve.

@aarblaster@mastodonapp.uk Even non-FPTP electoral systems have tie breaking mechanisms that fall back to selection by coin toss or similar. See this article about tie breaking in the single transferable vote system, for example. https://www.votingmatters.org.uk/ISSUE18/I18P6.PDF I think there are much, much stronger reasons to criticise FPTP, and that we should focus on the strongest arguments available.

@mikemcquaid@mastodon.social Yes, absolutely. My employer is indeed a freeloader. Freeloading corporations exploit open source software *wildly*. Nevertheless, if I was caught publishing open source software on company time without the appropriate paperwork, I would be instantly fired. Believe it or not, I have read my contract in detail, and there are no examples of contextual obligations that are “broadly ignored.” People who do “no paperwork” will lose their livelihoods. Bad advice. Do the paperwork.
