Engineer equivalent of a Rōnin. I am no longer bound to any one master and free to use my skills to help the poor and slay the rich.

Father, Roboticist, Radio Amateur, Pun enthusiast, and an odd sense of humor. AI Slop avatar on purpose to poison scrapers who use name/face pairs to train facial recognition databases. I look "kind" of like that.

@XauriEL@mastodon.nz Yeah, it doesn't really actually make sense. I used to think that Lewis Carroll was writing silly dialog about words meaning what the speaker wanted them to mean when I read Alice, now I realize he was poking fun at pundits.

@MLE_online@social.afront.org @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I was being specific to the term 'heat'. There are others, like "if winds are over 100mph and you go outside you will die.", "if rain is accumulating faster than 12" per hour in a US city and you're in a car, you will die. " Things like that. There are a lot of assumptions in building code, civil codes, Etc, about what is "unlikely" and so need not be considered. Those assumptions will be tested extensively in the coming decade.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org @MsMerope@sfba.social Turntables are kind of in vogue at the moment. So yeah they're a thing. I saw one at a garage sale when I rode up on my back and the guy in front of me, walking on the sidewalk, hurried up and picked it up and carried with him the whole time before buying it and leaving. I asked the woman what she had sold it for and she said $5 😆. I'm sure she was super happy it went so quickly.

@katrinakatrinka@infosec.exchange @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org Wanna bet he isn't paying them combat pay either? I won't take that bet because I'm sure he isn't. Given the capabilities Iran anyone stationed in the Gulf should now be on 'active combat duty' status. But that would be more expensive for Whisky Pete.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org At my High School Reunion one of my fellow band members (and a HAM) who played base for the Stage Band was there. We all talked about what we were doing (sort of the humble brag kinda thing) and I felt like I was winning with my high tech job when the band he was playing for came by to pick him up for the next gig, and it was DONNA SUMMER'S TOUR BUS! We were all just dumb struck, and the grin on his face when he waved goodbye was pretty huge. Definitely won the evening.

Because yeah, in the desert you always shake your shoes before putting them on because smaller things think of shoes as caves they can hang out it to get out of the heat.

I'm a big fan of getting everyone to vote, especially the newest voters because they are the biggest bloc of people who could, but don't vote in the US. And they are greatly affected by this crap.

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I'm a bit surprised you couldn't find it stocked in a bike store somewhere reasonably near by. That said, there are now Ebay sellers that seem to use AI to take a search query and compose a 'buy it now' page for the part. I haven't tried 'flux capacitor' yet but I'm getting close 😆

Yeah no. I remember the 70's and 80's. You apparently do not 😉 In 1980 is was 13% annually. That's 3 times the current rate.

At this late stage I'm kind of surprised we don't have a programming environment that is simply an HTML rendering / UX engine that you run your code in. Where the HTML engine is the equivalent of the BASIC interpreter kinds of thing. Sort of like an all-in-one one window window system + language interpreter.

@RueNahcMohr@infosec.exchange Ah okay. I had made linear actuators by brazing a 10-32 nut into some brass tubing, sliding that into another piece of tubing and using a threaded rod that was attached to a motor. So some what similar in concept. The threaded rod needs to be greased periodically which is annoying.

@c_9@mstdn.ca I have pointed out to all of my California representives (and Gov Newsom) that we could do this in California. We have the land, sunlight, and a bigger economy (so a bigger positive impact). We already make more energy from renewables during the day than we can use, but we lag behind in batteries.

@RueNahcMohr@infosec.exchange I feel ya on how easy it is to get angry. Muting words is a pretty cool thing that works well here. Just saying that unlike other social networks you are likely not seeing a lot of stuff you would be interested in because you don't follow people. Curating that list, especially with selective word muting, can really give you a great experience. @MLE_online@social.afront.org

@RueNahcMohr@infosec.exchange So here is an experiment for you might try Rue. You've got 662 followers but you only follow 92. What if you followed back all of the people who follow you? Then when they did a make, perhaps inspired by something you did, it would show up in your feed. As it is, if you don't follow someone in the Fediverse, and no one else on your server instance does, you just won't see their posts. That is one of the differences between here and twitter/bluesky. @MLE_online@social.afront.org

There might be a group within China that is trying to "help them to death" (there is a Chinese phrase which means this) its where someone pretends to be your friend and helping but their goal is for you to fail and die because they want something you will leave behind.
