Unpopular theory: AI is scary to many, but the hacking and calls for slowdown are intentional stories to make the autoregressive token generation seem more capable and to encourage US government regulation on the verge of OpenAI and Anthropic’s IPOs. They think they are going to cross the line and this is slamming the doors behind them to thwart competition and cheaper Chinese models. Tech journalism has failed you.
This is a great summary of why it has been so satisfying to watch humble, distinguished competence in action on this journey. We’re desperate for a reminder of what has and can be in the face of abject, corrupt weaponized stupidity.

We lost our little boy Loki very suddenly earlier this summer. We were shattered and not looking to replace him, but his sister, Freyja, was very sad and lonely. We were told about this little boy who needed a home. They met today and got along. He’s staying. Name TBD.

I’ve been working on something that I’ve been imagining for years. It’s early days and not quite ready for on-boarding new folks but it’s moving quickly. This is kind of funny. I have a codebase for my agentic coding class. The purpose of the class isn’t to teach what buttons to push or type, but how it impacts the SDLC, role, risk of skill atrophy, how to onboard junior devs, etc. There are several exercises where they look at a codebase and try to find bugs, predict where something needs to change, etc. to gauge their skills against the agents. It’s not to make them feel bad, but to show that their role remains judgement, prioritization, etc.
