I'm making the move from Insta to Gram because I cannot with Insta, and I am at home here on Mastodon. So I decided it is time to bring my images to the fediverse. Hooray!
At gram.social I will be posting pics of my handmade, nondigital art (pointing to my Patreon, a combo of free, public and paywalled content) and photos from my work as an anthropologist. Plus the occasional dog and cat. (:

My fifth grader is going through a wringer, which will surely only increase next year, sixth grade, new school. He's undiagnosed-probably-definitely-autistic with a big tender heart. And certain kids (who used to be friends) are doing little things that cut him to the bone, probably(?) because they know they can get a rise out of him. I know what I did to survive school at his age, but I don't know my strategies were best.
How do you advise your kid so as to minimize normie-inflicted trauma and preserve the availability and tenderness of that beautiful ND heart? What strategies do you advise? How do you prevent hiding, masking, toughening and shame?

@LoganFive@beige.party "Getting published is hard, prepare for rejection, polish polish polish." This led me to write for years without ever feeling ready, or having any idea how, to sell my work. I wish they'd told teenage-me, "Getting rejected by publishers is to be expected, but it's a numbers game, so let's figure out how to make querying sustainable for you! You got this! It's only a matter of time!" Also, "In the meantime don't forget what you're here to do - keep writing, keep getting better."

@me @drewph@ieji.de Burnout and depression are diagnostically different in that doing small gentle things generally helps with depression, but is counterproductive with burnout. I'm struggling with burnout myself, and the deskilling is one of the scariest parts. Your description sounds to me like autistic burnout. I second what @pathfinder@beige.party said. Every time #AI comes up in my classrooms I am relieved to hear the #students talk about it with nuance, restraint and concern. One student today said she's excited about some of the things it can do, yet thinks the mass rollout of #LLMs is reckless. When I said I am also impressed by some of what it can do she cut in to say, "But if you express approval for some of it, people think you approve of all of it." 🏆🏆🏆

I did a read-through of a novel manuscript that I completed a while back (#amQuerying). It's good to occasionally pick up something you've written and read it fresh, as a reader. It's *really* good to do that and think, damn this is a good ride

@thomasjwebb @cwebber I'm not a programmer; I'm a social scientist. I occasionally converse with chatgpt to test its behavior in that domain. When it fails, I feel unsatisfied. When it passes, I feel unsatisfied. I find myself wanting to convince it that it shouldn't exist, as if it were a "someone" that could be convinced. I don't know if this puts me in camp one or two
