Hike after appointment was chock full of mushrooms. All the little wetland areas were dry, but that seemed to suit the mushrooms or high humidity is enough.

Trail run this morning. Nice, cool Fall morning but I was still overdressed for trail running. Maybe if I was a faster runner evaporative cooling would be a factor? 🤔🥹

I have a few devices where the micro usb is starting to fail. Turns out it is possible to convert to USB-C, if you can get the device open and have soldering skills. There are replacement USB-C plugs that have a tiny board with same pin layout (and pwr resistors), just gotta pick the right voltage/ground orientation.

This video shows the steps, albeit with all manner of triggering solder crimes. 😬

This morning's walk in the rain brought to you by the first tiger milkweed butterfly caterpillar I've seen in I don't know how long.

@lfisk@infosec.exchange There were so many of them, especially as it got closer to the top and steeper. I found one other photo of stairs from about halfway up, not as impressive but still useful.

@lfisk@infosec.exchange It's only be a few years of trail running but I can't remember a time of being underdressed. Sure, the first five minutes I may have worried about it, but that fades once muscle heat kicks in.

The sky was spectacular on this morning's ride. 54°F (12C) at the start and low 70's (21C) by the end of the 32 mile (52km) loop.

Been a while since posting one of these. Perhaps reflective of recent coffee blends or of a psyche low tide.

Another project was a new cartridge for shower. Checked ahead of time that HD had it (5 in stock!) and when I got there not only was Symmons stuff on the very tucked in back of the very bottom of a wide variety of other brands, but no part on hand. Gave up and while looking at softeners an associate said "hi" and that was enough encouragement for me to ask about the part. We went over, she verified that yes it was empty, scans tag with bar code reader and heads over to the "alternate" display a couple aisles over (not mentioned on web/app) with at least 5 of them. It pays to talk to someone, sometimes.
Also, according to Symmons their brass parts are made in Braintree, MA.

Someone recently posted that juvenile Cardinals were kind of splotchy. Would this be one?

Tried getting phone to take photo at intersection of water and air, but really only got one or the other. Maybe without waves it would work.

"What's that?"
"Oh, a triskelion of dongs."
Would be a conversation starter (or stopper) for sure. Found a selection of non-dong adaptors. Maybe bat wings?

Kick back for a luxuriously filmed gravel bike build.
Genesis website calls this, "Stone Temple Violets".

The filming and editing of this guy's videos (and cleanup) is surely going to become a channel of its own someday.
He mostly posts shorts, the 3rd image shows how to turn shorts into a normal video that's easier to pause, back up, and has less UI covering it.

@lfisk@infosec.exchange I walked back to see if there was any movement. Yeppers. From the girth I'm guessing Baldface as well.
It's 15+ feet on other side of a stone wall I'm not popping over for a closer look. ';^)

@lfisk@infosec.exchange It's not leaking out of the unit, it is leaking from one of the "ports" that the internal plate controls. There's scratches on the teflon surface, not sure if that is it, and certainly a variety of internal gaskets involved. It's tempting to get a new control valve setup, but I'm guessing my wife would prefer a new one given how long we've had this.

@lfisk@infosec.exchange it looks like a quarter inch so really close, the tiny bits that didn’t break off are going to hang on for dear life but probably not as much as the giant rusted bar inside receiver.

@lfisk@infosec.exchange Breaker bar was first thing I tried (sorry, all these details buried in first photo's ALT), just couldn't get/keep a good purchase on it, but also didn't have it jacked up so that might have helped.
