I think we'd be better off if everyone viewed AI like you'd view a four year old.
If a four year old tells you a fact about space, it is probably true; kids love learning about space. If they insist they discovered a NEW fact about space, well maybe we don't take that at face value.
Also never ask health advice; we've seen what four year olds lick.
Everyone in the Trump admin: despite not having any qualifications, I’m an expert and in charge.
Me: Can I call myself a Nuclear Physicist even though my PhD is in Nuclear Engineering, given that one of my two focus areas was Nuclear Physics? But also, I suppose, to be specific I mostly do cyclotron and beam physics. Yeah probably not I’ll just say I’m a goober or something
click on all the traffic lights?!
do you include the like, wires? the posts?
what IS a traffic light?! Is it just the part with the lights?
I imagine if I pointed to the pole suspending a traffic light and asked an average person what it is they'd say a traffic light not a pole or something
One weird work habit I've developed is always scheduling emails to send in 5 min to an hour in the future (depending on urgency). About 50% of the time I edit them at least once before they send.
It’s both wild and inevitable how a vast majority of careers and jobs necessary for our society to function now provide downward class mobility
I hate that we millennials also get to see the days that the irreconcileable nature of democracy and capitalism finally comes to a head
Are there any good newsletters, mailing lists, forums, or (ugh) subreddits for sharing and learning about personal data security and reducing surveillance?
I need to blow the whistle, @oldladyplays@wargamers.social, accelerators have been discovering new genders for years and the scientific community is covering it up
Reddit is a cesspool but sometimes it teaches me things like "a ghost as a person under a sheet started in ancient Egypt"

@slothrop@chaos.social I think there's a world where LLMs are trained on data that was given voluntarily, where a lot of AI money flows to the creators and writers of that data, and the data centers are built only when they would not contribute to a climate crises.
We certainly don't live in that world though.
If I hooked up an SNES/NES/Genesis emulator to the living room TV; what games would you recommend for me to play with an 8 year old (and also for her to play on her own)

I'm still crashing out about this. The only thing I can think of is that they are arguing that the writers of the 14th amendment didn't even think about foreigners, right?
