Ancient Romans wrote everything in upper case, and wrote numbers with letters, because they could only use 5-bit encoding due to severe RAM shortages.
I've been recently thinking about all this advice about good design, such as https://tenprinciples.design and so on. While I mostly agree that they are generally good advice, design is a language, and you can use it to communicate a wide variety of things. Try substituting "good design" with "good book" in those ten principles. Or "good song lyrics". They still kind of hold, but would you like all books or all songs to follow them? Sometimes we want things that are not perfect, but that speak to us.
I like to think about sense as a semi-physical property, similar to negentropy. It can only be produced artificially by humans, and always requires conscious effort, and possibly also skill and experience. Without human attention, an automated system will at best retain sense, and more likely, lose it gradually. Every human intervention in the system is an opportunity, but not a guarantee, to increase it. When you remove an opportunity for human intervention from a process, you risk nonsense.
For a land owner, their title, their inheritance, and their property are everything. Take it away and they are just some helpless person with no means of survival. But a sick landlord earns as much as a healthy one.
For a craftsman, things break, new things are bought, materials get used up, tools wear out. If they get robbed, they can make it up. They are only brought down if they get injured or sick and can't work.
I think this explains why rich people don't care about healthcare so much.
If you were writing a story set in a world where a reverse zombie plague happened, how would it look like?
Out of curiosity, are there any witch hunt survival guides out there (for survival of the victims, not the hunters)?
Isn't it funny how when a corporation puts up arbitrary terms of service, people just go "well, they can do whatever they want, they own the place"?
Do you have more examples of historical pairings similar to Tesla/Edison or Wozniak/Jobs? Perhaps Lovelace/Babbage? Any others?
