Infrastruktur wie Bahn, Taxi, Post haben noch nie von Konkurrenz profitiert. Grenzüberschreitender Bahnverkehr ist cool, aber Italo will ja offensichtlich innerhalb von Deutschland der Bahn Konkurrenz machen und das kann für Kunden nur schlecht sein.
Am Ende hab ich als DB Kunde weniger Auswahl an Zügen zwischen München und Berlin, weil Italo der DB Zeitslots weg nimmt.
Und jeder der Anschlussfahrten braucht will einfach nicht mit Italo, Flix und Co fahren, weil man kein durchgehendes Ticket und keine durchgehenden Fahrgastrechte bekommt.

VPNs work perfectly to circumvent a lot of stupid geoblocking and they work *good enough* to allow filesharing without getting sued. They move the hurdle of figuring out who and where I am across multiple different jurisdictions. That's sufficient here, you don't need "perfect" privacy.

This works good enough on big insurances, but following hashtags is near useless on single user instances.

I honestly don't see why this interaction wouldn't be fair game within what social media should be about.
It feels like another instance of the quote toot discussion. Mastodon seems to forget, that interactions and posts which are being read are the point of social media.

Good software most of the time is actively maintained and therefore should get updated and if you have good quality control, nothing speaks against frequent updates.
It rarely happens that software is truly "finished" and shouldn't continuously be developed.

@alice@lgbtqia.space the long time established practice on the fediverse would be a #nobot in your profile, that's what people used since ages and what is expected to be honored by all bots including those that just crawl/don't trigger notifications.
My instance for example explicitly mentiones that when you run a bot you need to give people the ability to opt-out. So it's clear form the server rules that opt-in isn't required.

Selbst wenn wir von einer Test-Positiv Dauer von 1 Monat ausgehen, wären ja statistisch nur maximal 16k Menschen weltweit gleichzeitig positiv und die noch dazu vermutlich nicht geographisch gleichmäßig verteilt/gehäuft in den Herkunftsländern der Reisenden.

Following hashtags is useless on small mastodon instances, since it only shows posts your instance already knows.
These bots are (like any other federation bot) a part to fix that.
Besides honoring a "nobot" in the profile, I don't see why this should require opt-in consent.
It helps a system to work in a way most people already assume it would.
Posting publicly with hashtags means you want your posts to be found and interacted with, doesn't it?
Why expect extra consent for something that purely serves this purpose?
This isn't an AI crawler, it's not something serving external purposes, it's a feature for bringing the fediverse closer together.

Yes, I do agree the limited visibility helps mastodon to limit some of the issues of social media.
But I don't think most people do expect hashtags to mirror their current bubble and not allow breaking out of your instances bubble.
If a big event happens, I certainly would want to be able to find hashtagged posts, no matter where in the fediverse they were posted and I also wouldn't mind being able to see all mosstodon and mountainmonday posts throughout the fediverse on a regular basis.
The current system of how hashtags work certainly isn't the work or intent.
It works that way, since this was easy to implement within the given infrastructure.
And yes, I realize that if mastodon would implement hashtag push and allow for a more unified view, given the current climate on the platform it probably would end up being opt in, just like search and quotes, severely limiting its usefulness.
