@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q3: Have you ever made something to make a journey of any kind easier? #MakersHour I have a zipper bag I sewed at Maker Camp that I use to organize my cables and bits when traveling. I need to make a few more. Very handy.
I have been looking for a nice 70s cassette deck to go with my receiver/amp and I stumbled upon an Atari 410 Program Recorder 5 mies away for $25. I have to get it, right? I have been planning on making a cassette tape loop art piece and I think it's a sign.
@paparatti@phire.place I saw some moss on the dog walk yesterday, and was thinking, hm, I should take a picture of the moss. it's moss season. I neglected to take that photo but I will next time!
@tchambers I like this, the incentives are different and sharing expertise is why I have been in online community for over 20 years. Parasocial relationships have existed just as long, though! (but of course the scale and scope is different)
@MLE_online@social.afront.org This for sure! Although I have met most of the wide weird world of friends online, I have had an amazing time also meeting and working with them in-person.
@MLE_online@social.afront.org This was a big thing in 7th grade shop class, but we just drew the design and the teacher handled the router, which was probably a good thing!
@glyph@mastodon.social These all look lovely! I am trying to get myself to do creative coding to challenge myself to learn new things besides web database programming. Python is what I like to use so I will have to explore. I wish I had a question but I need to learn more to ask them.
@pzmyers It's this one. He said a couple of clever things 25 years ago. I did love The Magic of Reality way back but I think I'd find a different book now.
@tomjennings@tldr.nettime.org Cool. I just listened to a podcast on computer history that covered the Difference Engine. One of the first commercially made ones was at the Dudley Observatory in Albany New York near me. It's at the Smithsonian now.
@bit101 Interesting. My whole career was learning all kinds of stuff looking through the code to find the thing. Again, I think I am not necessarily typical but it worked for me!
@cwebber@MichaelTBacon@ocdtrekkie@alienghic after 25 years as a programmer, and having shifted to a different career I am finally trying to learn about what I have been doing all this time. That is focusing on learning programming instead of just intuitively building web apps.
@misternineham I mean it would be close because the other 2 is also 1.5 anyway so they would be pretty close. I've cut a 2x6 and they are usually under a lot of tension especially pressure treated so they might be even less straight than before cutting.
@misternineham The 36 is 2 squares and the 5? is approximately 3.5 squares thats 63 inches. I spent several minutes trying to read a phone message with almost entirely ambiguous digits.
@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q1: Welcome! Introduce yourself and tell us what you’d like to be making right now. (Feel free to show pictures of what you’ve been up to as well!) #MakersHour - Hi there! I'm Dave and I have been 3D printing flexible PLA stamps and I am going to record my Podcast tomorrow after a break.
@jab01701mid There's apparently a few web-based apps that are a better value. I used H&R Block for years but switched this year and it was actually easier. I have a Schedule C business and it was cool. Either way the cost is worth it for the time!
@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q2: Do you make things while travelling (business/vacation)? What is in your ‘must bring’ toolbox? #MakersHour I usually only bring a notebook and my iPad and stick to drawing, but I find it difficult to dedicate time to it while traveling. It's aspirational.
@MakersHour@cupoftea.social Q5: If you could have an all-expense paid maker holiday, where would you go and why? #MakersHour I would go to the Center for Metal Arts in Johnsburg, Pennsylvania and take a class on metal forging.
@derSammler@oldbytes.space Wow. This photo reminds me that Commodore really went all in on this shape. That's so close to the B128 (probably the prettiest version) and the C128!
@jacob@social.jacobian.org I did change my well pump in 1 visit! Record I think was 7 in one day. I definitely had the 1 day record for the local auto parts store I could walk.
@cmconseils@mastodon.social This is an interesting question! I think of it as paying the creators I watch with my money. Of course I am also paying Google.
@kristinHenry@vis.social I usually leave them on purpose! I try to carve the outside so they'll look intentionally unintentional. I usually just cut out the shape all the way if I want it totally clean but then realize it's harder to register so they're all the same!
