Call me paranoid but the main lackey of an authoritarian regime purging one fifth of military leadership ahead of a nationwide election seems not great

You are not overreacting to the climate crisis. Your exhaustion from capitalist exploitation is not a personal failure. Your inability to meet society’s standards of perfection does not reflect your value. These are lies meant to keep us complacent so that the system’s machinery can continue.

The insidious thing about capitalist realism is that it instills in people this belief that our exploitative, unequal, unjust, competitive, and antagonistic society is the best we can get. That this is the only “real” option and anything else would be worse. But this is a deterministic cynicism that actually creates the conditions it claims are innate.

American capitalism is essentially pure grift at this point. Nearly every ad is either for sports gambling or AI, with a few weight loss drugs sprinkled in for good measure.

This was a fascinating issue to put together. Waste is so ever-present in capitalist society that we rarely stop to think about what it actually is, or what it could be instead.

More scientific research is published now than at any previous point in history, and yet the majority of it never makes its way to the general public. This is only getting worse now that the billionaires have completely taken over legacy media. @briefecology@climatejustice.social is an attempt to improve this situation, by focusing on recent ecological research and exploring how to improve nature-society relations.

It would be pretty cool to have a fediverse version of ResearchGate. Someone should look into that. Someone with a lot more free time than me.

I think when the maga era is finally over and we’re able to fully quantify its effects, we’ll see it as one of the largest transfers of wealth from the working class to the wealthy in American history

The Cop City struggle over the South River Forest in Atlanta should serve as a constant reminder that surveillance capitalism relies on ecological destruction. The growing network of Flock cameras and AI-powered monitoring lives on the back of data centers that heat the environment, waste water, spew emissions, pollute the soundscape, and worsen climate change. Destruction with one hand, criminalization with the other.

On one hand, I am far too busy to do a pre-watch of this and write up a spoiler-free, eco-horror analysis–treating the film far more seriously than it was ever intended–as a treat for the #Monsterdon community.
But on the other hand, I really want to.
