@nieral@wien.rocks Eigenmarken verschlechtern die Verhandlungsposition der Produzenten und Importeure gegenüber den Supermärkten. Spar kann seine "Spar Kalamata Oliven" von jenem Produzenten erzeugen lassen, der gerade das beste Angebot legt, und den Kunden wird's nicht unbedingt auffallen. Andererseits gibt's auch Firmen, die offenbar ganz gut vom Geschäft mit Eigenmarken leben, z.B. S. Spitz und die Obersteirische Molkerei.

Weil wir gestern zu viert eine 50cm-Pizza bestellt haben, hat es mich interessiert, ob der Preisunterschied von 10€ zu einer 40cm-Pizza gerechtfertigt ist.
Es stellt sich heraus: der lokale Pizzalieferdienst verrechnet für beide Größen auf 1/100 Cent genau denselben Preis pro cm². Die Pizza in Normalgröße - 30 cm - ist pro Fläche teurer; man zahlt etwa 1,90€ pro Pizza mehr.

However, as the Wikipedia article notes, "The onboard AGC systems were secondary, as NASA conducted primary navigation with mainframe computers in Houston."

I think it was obvious because while the protocol is open, the answer to the question "Can I run my own server and connect it to the network?" was always "Umm, ahem, not really, because...".
At the same time there were already hosters who would run a Mastodon instance just for you for a couple euros per month.

@burger_jaap@mastodon.social Looks like a nice idea for small/short-term projects where the cost and hassle of installing a temporary hookup is high in comparison to the cost of running a generator. In my city I usually see markets and construction sites use temporary hookups.

I see Bose and Sonos primarily as hardware manufacturers. I think in the history of tech, there are quite a few cases in which the more open, less restrictive hardware has had more success in the market (including licensing/patents).
I get that they would like to milk their customer base a bit more - but for me, possible vendor lock-in makes products less attractive.

Ich hätte Lust gehabt, mit Hilfe des Modems und des Raspberry Pi ein skurriles Menüsystem, ein Textadventure (unter Verwendung von Text-to-Speech und Zifferntasten) oder vielleicht auch ein BBS zu betreiben. Aber ich möchte eben *nicht*, dass Leute anrufen.
Das nette an der deutschen Innenpolitik ist, dass sie ein bisschen unterhaltsam ist und man als Österreicher in der Regel nicht direkt davon betroffen ist.

This got me thinking. Password managers are great and I've been trying to convince my parents to use one. But in @paco@infosec.exchange 's mom's case, it would have been a disaster had the attacker managed to get access to the password manager's database. So maybe biometrics and passkeys/Fido keys are the way to go. I think I should also consider setting up a network-based ad blocker like Pi-Hole.
