I kinda forgot to actually announce this but I am, since beginning of the year, Vice President at @oshwassociation@mastodon.social
Am hoping to find more ways for OSHWA to support the open hardware community.

You can help by coming to our Summit in Berlin in May, its great fun and you will meet awesome people!

Pleased to report that a tiny PC water cooling pump can easily deal with a 24 meter long loop to cool every room of your apartment with your mobile AC

Lattice buying AMI is not an acquisition I anticipated what so ever. I feel like I either don't fully understand Lattice business or what AMI does beyond reference firmware.

E: Watched an interview, sounds like they wanna get bigger in the root of trust and security space? Still kinda odd but makes vaguely more sense now

This is 65W?! Its hard to properly show how tiny this is. That thing can power my Laptops full throttle without issue.

Anyone have recommendations for a multi channel (4ch+) energy analyzer? Think Joulescope but does not need to have that precision or bandwidth, something in the Nordic PPK2 class is perfectly fine.
Ideally fully isolated frontend and good software for realtime PC side capture of data.
I want to avoid using an Oscilloscope because big and usually very cumbersome to setup with software and shunt etc

Ease of use and quick measurement setup is most important.

@yosh@toot.yosh.is I also see it as a difficult position given my general freedom of information stance. Though I think an aspect of it is the closed information derivative, I would have less problems with that singular aspects of LLMs if the resulting model weights would be equally open information. With them being closed it feels like laundering open information into closed information.

And another reason why Python packaging needs to gets fixed upstream. You can't have the languages package management be treated as a thing to be implemented by third parties.
Please CPython, finally learn from node and Rust on how to do this properly.

We have two 26" folding mountain bikes to sell at the end of EMF on either Sunday during the day or Monday morning in Ledbury. They should easily fit into a car trunk when folded. They have full suspension. 120 GBP each or name your price. #emfcamp #emf2026

Is there any option to hire a bicycle for #emfcamp ?
It doesn't seem like there are any local companies that do that. I just want to get around a bit quicker than on foot and not be fully reliant on the shuttle service.

There are a few cheaper ones for 50 points that have 127 pages which is different from this preliminary PDF. https://download.csdn.net/download/weixin_42662171/86203355 the other one https://download.csdn.net/download/zf429_0/6987453

@dlharmon@chaos.social ah ok yea parts in that realm are tough. Low performance stuff like MCUs are no issue but anything in that class that would pair with DDR4/5 is bad rn, there I would wait but worth developing right now, this is unlikely to last more than another year, getting to manufacturing stage always takes longer than usually expected

@wren6991 @alvaro yea smells like 2x10K parallel being on purpose to save the extra reel and they only ever intended to short the CC lines together. Wild to still see this error being made 10y into USB-C adoption, really wonder where that comes from, there gotta be some wrong guidance around this somewhere.

@gsuberland @wren6991 @alvaro I wish the industry took more care into adopting cmsis-dap+pack. J-link still the least headache for many parts unfortunately. Maybe there needs to be an org vendors can throw money at to add support for their part like they do with Segger. Quite a few shoddy half done cmsis packs/svd files out there

@wren6991 @alvaro I feel like the type of person too lazy to read a spec in detail (most people really) would just google how to implement USB-C and use the first vaguely reliable looking circuit. You need to be a weird type of half assing person to want to not do the lazy google route, read the spec but then not fully read the spec to actually implement it correctly :D

@wren6991 @alvaro Not sure if D-/D+ orientation detection is even suggested, the standard calls for it to be shorted in normal circumstances. For the high speed pairs its mandatory to detect orientation

Replying to
@mifune @wren6991 @alvaro my theory is that they are separate pins because they are easiest/best to short on the PCB. You need the pads in the connector for rotational symmetry and having them be individual pads happens by default due to how the construction works. Shorting them in the connector is rather complex manufacturing wise/an additional step and you can't do it in the cable without extra cables or creating an excessive stub via the plug+connector

@whitequark Which, fair for the financial burden but the technical ground work needs to be more foundational to make package management a more natural first party aspect of Python, which I think we discussed before and realize is not straight forward but still think can see significant improvement over the current state.
