While my stance is that religion has done more harm than good, atheists should recognize its psychological role and how people from time immemorial needed it as a stabilizing factor in their lives, and most still do, internally or for cohesion with their community. What atheists should be focusing on is divorcing dogma from power. Not being debate bros.

Pervert pastors keep wanting 10 year olds to read about Hosea marrying a prostitute and parading her naked down the street, or the Benjaminites raping a concubine to death before her husband hacks her body apart or a hymn about smashing enemies' babies on rocks, or Revalation's very blatantly erotic description of "the whore of Babylon's" breasts and lips. Not only is it sexually graphic but sexually violent! And that's not even getting into the threats of eternal torture, laws about when it is ok to rape an unwed woman, or slavery.

But sadly I think the taboos are still strong on the secular side of things too, even if they're not so explicitly codified. Yours and Savannah's discussion around sex work stigma brings me back to a lot of thoughts on this economized "supply and demand" mentality inflicted on afabs' sexual availability to men. Sex workers separating their value from their sexual availability, and choosing the price of that sexual availability, are "cheap" by that dehumanizing logic. And it's become further augmented by religious sexual ethics, right-wing capitalism, and new alpha-bro jargon of "high-value" vs "low-value" women being based on a man's exclusive access/ownership of her sexuality. It plays so much into purity culture taught to afabs, the alarming normalization of preying on younger victims, and the total utter blindness towards SA inflicted on amabs.
