Currently my solar panels are producing A LOT of electric, and have been for a month or so (middle of Sweden). At the same time, electric prices are around 1.5-2 kr (0.15-2 eur/usd) kwh. How is that possible? It is very cheap to set up a solar farm, it is very safe and will make you a lot of money if you are a utility company.
Instead the Swedish government is pouring billions into setting up atomic power plants which takes a long time to do, costs a lot of money, and is a great security risk (turns ordinary weapons into atomic weapons as we have seen in Zaporizhzhia).
Why?
And btw, it is perfectly feasible to have battery packs that will power your house over night, just from charging from your panels.

Jag kör mycket matrix, men genom jobbets server, jag hade inte råda att självhosta för smolnet t.ex.
Jag vet inte om off brand-signal löser det problemet, men jag tycker det är bra att folk jobbar på federerade e2e chat lösningar.
Vet också att det pågår arbete med att få igång e2e över activitypub (genom MLS-standarden) vilket jag tycker är bra. Det är inte ett löst problem med e2e krypterad, federerad opensource chat, så jättebra att folk jobbar på det.

@jens@toots.nu many people have raised the notion that internet access, and even broadband internet should be a right for people, and sweden has put money in to that infrastructure which I think is good.
Currently though, all of our computing is ment to take place in a US datacenter somewhere. Why could it not be a fundamental right to have access to computing power too? I think it makes sense that a source of power (the ability to do computing) should be accessible by all, not just those with a lot of money. This could be interpreted in different ways, maybe the government has a compute cloud you are allowed to run your stuff on, maybe there are tax breaks for buying laptops, maybe the government starts producing affordable RISC-V processors, or something completely different.
But this was a poll with a question because I wanted to hear what other people thought when posing the question, not directly spell out my own thinking (as I have done now that the poll is closed).
