Here's the lesson folks will have to learn forever and ever I suppose: you can't coalition build with bigots.
There will never be enough bigots and there will always be too many scapegoats.
You certainly will never build a coalition by sacrificing scapegoats after scapegoats after scapegoats
If there's a non-fascist political future in the US and the world, the coalition will include trans people, disabled people, people against the genocides and wars happening now, migrants, the poor, and the billions of ways humans just *are* and NOT by ceding ground to the bigots who hate us.
We seem to need to learn this every century or so, maybe.

It's a little sus if you end up on the side of the billionaire in the ed-pink-kraft-macklemore thing-y, even accidentally.

the conversation is veering too close into "but what about the good billionaires we never hear about but have to assume exist." and that's gross.

I'm dipping into Carney's "energy" announcement and FUCK YOU Mark Carney.
His calm voice explaining that yeah, Canada will emit more emissions, but cutting emissions just "isn;t sustainable".
FUCK. YOU. MARK. CARNEY.

Look, I write letters to politicians (who I didn't vote for, btw, i voted for a communist this last time I think. i find that more fun that telling strangers I think voting doesn't matter even if it's just as "effective") for a few reasons. NOT because I have a serious expectation they will derail their whole political career just to save the planet (like, who expects that? This isn't a hollywood movie and only arnold was ever an action hero AND a (cruel) politician, so it's unlikely).
I do it because what history I've learned of humanitarian mass crimes (like genocide and ecocide) tells me is one of the first excuses perpetrators and people complicit in mass harm will fall to when called to account is "we didn't know" and we depend on the thousands and millions of unrecognized survivors, chroniclers, and archivists to establish the perpetrators of mass harm DID know. I write a letter to the person who votes whether to give MORE money or LESS money to the billionaires and militaries and police industrial complex so there is one more letter telling the future this member of parliament, this city councillor, these people knew.
As people die from climate disaster and genocides partly funded with tax dollars and sanctioned fundraisers and tax cuts to oil companies and profiting from land dispossession, I can't stop any of that but I can write to the person who, on paper, is supposed to represent me so in the future they can't ever say they didn't know or had no idea. People will have told them.
That's one reason I write these useless letters, if anyone wants to know.

Saw a video about how climate change "presents an opportunity to archeologists" because all the droughts and stuff are revealing heretofor unknown ancient structures and I *hate* the framing!
We will be too dead from climate change to take advantage of any "opportunities".

Like, if you are so cynical about politics that you will accept a rapist to push an anti-genocide agenda, that is very much time for you to abandon electoral politics because we do not need voters doing this "math".

"straight down the middle" makes me think of two men playing checkers dividing up the checker-board fairly, without any regard for the giant meadow they are playing in or whereabouts in the meadow they are or where the fast-approaching wildfire is at related to them.

Letter to Liberal MP Mike Kelloway:
Dear Mike Kelloway,
"Dismay" is not a strong enough word to describe my feelings at Mark Carney's announcement that Canada will INCREASE our carbon emissions in the next few years.
I called him murderous in an email before, and increasing Canada's emissions is *murderous*.
If Mark Carney doesn't understand it, maybe *you* do, as someone who needs a livable climate: we CANNOT continue to be the climate villains. It is despicable.
Regards,
Marc Godin

(I'm going outside, so I'm not grumpy about this today but I am saying it out loud so there isn't any confusion. I understand what it means to hold one's nose to vote and we've all done it (not all of us, actually, but), it does not pertain at all whatsoever to my foundational belief the Liberals are bullshit and never did anything for anyone they weren't forced to by activists, rebels, and hard-fought advocacy and even then the liberals work extra hard to ruin it.)

If Hunter Biden reads this: hey cool theory about how gays' internalized homophobia makes them ruin the country. What's the straight oligarchs (there's a lot more of those than the gays, if you check) excuse?

@guyjantic@infosec.exchange As a Canadian I try to resist "well the US is worse than us, after all" comparisons, because:
a) it acts as a "thought-terminating cliche" for canadians so we never consider doing any social improvements so long as we're better than the US. (I recognize for americans it's important they aren't led into scapegoating canada, though)
b) the settler-colonial histories of Canada and the USA are deeply intertwined as allies and rivals and neither could hold their global position today without the other, so it *can* be like splitting hairs about which is worse when they've acted as partners so frequently.
So, I think Americans ought to not point fingers at Canadians, but Canadians are not in a great position to point fingers at Americans. We're doing the same crimes in slightly different ways, appropriately weighted for size and global importance.

Recognizing this went a long way to me becoming pro police and prison abolition. By the time the anti-public health protests were happening in Canada's capital city and elsewhere I'd already witnessed how violent the police *can* be when they wanna, but how a certain demographic with certain political views gets treated very, very gently.

I forget what movie it was, but when rumours came out that Jared Leto's "method acting" was a huge disruption for everyone on set I decided he was trash.
I kinda think that folks who act like dicks and invent elaborate excuses for why they "had to" act like dicks are dicks.
