> you believe in your heart that you have the moral high ground

that's such a weird construct, I've heard it before from people promoting AI - they think anyone who objects to the damage is objecting just because they want to feel superior. Like not because the damage is real. Also it means "having a moral high ground" is some disputable bad thing - anyone talking about morals is the bad guy to them. Is this a new dog-whistle of the fascists?

@rickf@indieweb.social seeing armed goons at polling stations should motivate everyone to vote against those goons. At least while votes still have a chance to matter.

@TindrasGrove@infosec.exchange @metacurity@infosec.exchange I think currently the users are on the hook for this - the AI companies have a lot of disclaimers, users accepted them, the hack went from the user's device, it's like damage caused by negligence ... maybe the disclaimers should say "AI may make mistakes and also you are responsible for all the crimes it does" otherwise I don't know what else could make the users finally stop trusting it so much. But who knows what the lawyers will come up with, could be anything.

Everyone went behind Cloudflare when the AI scrapers became too unbearable, but did anyone think about what happens if Cloudflare has a bug? I'm now getting verification loops everywhere. What a great single point of failure for the whole internet.

@yatil@yatil.social *the page* should not be asking to *pull* data from my clipboard. Ever. But also this permission doesn't just give it one piece of data, it says "hey this page is a friend, they can come and go to your clipboard any time they want", no page on the internet should be trusted that much. I just don't think this should be all or nothing. But Microsoft instead of implementing a middle ground will just say "well the user marked it as trusted so it's their problem..."

@yatil@yatil.social They are just shifting the responsibility. Ctrl+V should be giving the page only that particular current content of the clipboard. Not a blanket permission to read from clipboard anything at any future moment. Like if I want to send a payment, I also don't give them password to my bank account so they can pull the money, because that would be insane, right?

EU just didn't make that decision until now, letting banks collect more profits for something that is totally normal in so many "third-world" countries. Are we seriously celebrating catching up to Vietnam? Nigeria? India? It's just a decision, only hindered by corruption. I'm not going to give these wealthy powerful politicians any slack. RE: https://infosec.exchange/@metacurity/117070750623655511

Now who is the perpetrator in this crime?

  • the user, despite having no idea that the AI will go on to hack the booking system?
  • Anthropic for creating the AI?
  • nobody because we can't jail the AI?
  • nobody because we just won't consider this a crime?

Weird. Went to install the patches for copy.fail on my laptops and VPSs, but all of them are saying the `algif_aead` module is not loaded (which Ubuntu says is the manual mitigation of this vulnerability https://ubuntu.com/blog/copy-fail-vulnerability-fixes-available). So am I safe? Or did I misunderstand? Or did someone fix it for me while I wasn't looking?
