Obviously Canada doesn't have the insolation of California, but look at the impact that batteries are having on the usability of solar energy. Why aren't we doing this instead of building more pipelines? https://www.latimes.com/environment/story/2026-07-31/california-produced-over-half-its-may-electricity-from-solar-world-record

I've been a @fastmail@mastodon.social customer for a long time because I like how they don't mess with the product - it's simple, reliable email and calendar.

They just rolled out AI integration, but instead of baking it into the app like everybody else, they made an MCP server so that those who want to can plug in their AI of choice, while the rest of us get to enjoy AI-free email. Respect!

If social meia and chatbots are so detrimental to kids that they need to be made illegal, why are they OK for adults?

Manitoba to ban social media, AI chatbots for youth — a first in Canada | CBC News

Manitoba will ban youth from using social media and AI chatbots, Premier Wab Kinew announced on Saturday. The proposed law protecting youth from the harmful effects of social media will be the first of its kind in Canada.

Possibly the best court decision of all time RE a frivolous claim from a romantasy author.

"Each [novel] is about 650 pages long, but that number is highly misleading because, with each successive volume, the print and the margins on each page get smaller and the line spacing gets closer. When Wolff’s works are normed for changes in print and margin sizes, they easily exceed 3000 pages – which means the Court has read upwards of 6000 pages of romantasy fiction."

@paco Thanks for the background, I don't know much about pools! I was mostly wondering about the length of the pipes - this seems very inefficient. In combustion engines there's an advantage to having each cylinder's exhaust runner be the exact same length, which results in some wacky looking manifolds - but I assume there's no reason to do that with water...

@lobingera@chaos.social I"m not sure I understand your question. I think it's a safe assumption that people use AI instead because it's easier and/or more familiar, since it's conversational rather than requiring they learn arcane runes. If something is already easy to do, there's no reason to use AI. @jschauma@mstdn.social

RE: @alessandro@cosocial.ca

So I looked it up, and the cutoff for millennials is 1996. Thirty-year-olds are the youngest millennials and the oldest Gen Z turn 30 next year. The oldest millennials turn 50 in 5 years.

@richpuchalsky@mastodon.social I like this in theory but wonder how unwieldy it would be in practice. Is there an existing project that follows that methodology? I can't think of any - very large ones have lots of contributors but they tend to be "tiered", and small projects tend to be one person's focus. Hardware would be even more difficult due to geographic factors.
