Carney starting a crowdfunding campaign to repair the official residence of Canada's Prime Minister, apart from being embarrassing, really sets a high bar for the Beaverton to surpass in absurdity. @cbc_ottawa@mstdn.ca https://mstdn.ca/@cbc_ottawa/116835872617048614

@zombiecide@polyglot.city @Katika@chaos.social I remember once seeing a T-shirt with the Eurion constellation on it (the symbol hidden in banknotes to help scanners and photocopiers detect when you're trying to scan a banknote). I doubt it stopped anything but it's a nice idea!

Holy shit am I ever done with Shopify now!

It appears they added their "Shop" app to my store on April 10, unbeknownst to me, which bypasses any product/variant access restrictions I have configured! They just gave away a bunch of my product for free!!!

Fuck them. I'm so glad we're already working on migrating away from Shopify. Can't come soon enough!

Jeff Leiper has formally registered to run for mayor of #Ottawa! Sign up to volunteer/donate/take a sign here!

https://www.leiper2026.ca/

Jeff is the hardest working person on council. He pays attention to details while finding pragmatic solutions to problems in the city and pushing for more transparency and common sense. End the decline, vote Jeff for Mayor!

This article takes way too long to shed the charade that the "Board" is making decisions when it is really just one, unelected, Supervisor. #ocdsb #ONPoli@OttawaCititzen@flipboard.com https://flipboard.com/@ottawacititzen/ottawa-news-1u5c7nbiz/-/a-qiYlcZnxQz-eno8BXfS0Bw%3Aa%3A2439373826-%2F0

Interesting. This unattributed article (correctly imo) frames the NCC Weekend Bike Days as "opening" the parkways to active transportation rather than "closing" it to cars. #OttBike

@veronica @TerrorBite @tj the worst for me is when the "smooth scrolling" animates a gradual slowdown of the movement after you've finished moving the scroll wheel, and you have to wait for it to come to a complete stop before you can scroll another scrollable component or the page (Indeed.com's job postings suck for this)

He even mentions the nearby LRT station that will be open in a year, yet because it's not more parking there's "no solution". Any parking lot expansion will not be ready before LRT West opens, and likely will reduce parking demand.

The previous tenant of that site, Nortel, had a Transportation Demand Management program to help people bus, bike, and carpool to work. Why must every solution require everybody to drive their own car?

My new plan is also with Teksavvy. It has higher speeds, with the catch that it costs the same amount as my old plan. :P

FFS the Ottawa Citizen is regurgitating official stats again. They acknowledge the comparison is BS, but report it as fact anyway:

https://ottawacitizen.com/news/city-hall-security-incidents

How about total foot traffic to City Hall? Has that declined too? Attendance in the Council and committee galleries?

I, for one, haven't even tried going to City Hall because I'm sure my bike tools will be classified as "dangerous". What am I going to do? Leave my "dangerous" equipment on my bike where it can be stolen?

Whether the work is copyrighted, or copyrightable, doesn't seem to be a factor in the case.

@freakboy3742@cloudisland.nz A little while back, three candidates gave us presentations. The first talked about how good a communicator they were, using text too small to read on a regular screen, much less in a slide deck. The second talked about how good a communicator they were, using an unreadable font where every character resembled the Threads logo. The third just had a clear presentation. We picked the third.

Shopify wants me to change the CNAME records on my domain so they can continue to send my store's email notifications from my domain.

Only they didn't bother to tell me before making this change and I only found out because my admin notifications for new orders stopped filtering out of my inbox.

I find this out on a Friday at 3:30pm, and I will have to retry authenticating my domain multiple times over the weekend once the DNS updates have hopefully propagated.

Councillor Johnson (not Gower) is proposing a motion at next week's PH Committee to waive $2,487 in permit fees to allow struggling indie business (/s) IKEA to put up a 3-storey digital driver distraction sign on one of the largest commercial walls in #Ottawa.

@ShadSterling@mastodon.social @WiteWulf@cyberplace.social @brucelawson@social.vivaldi.net I can imagine a scenario — in today's bizarro tech bro world where workers aren't "employees", drivers for hire aren't "taxis", and purchasing doesn't mean "owning" — where the terms of service of a Spotify type service treats their relationship with the content uploader as something other than "licensing" for tech bro technicality reasons. Otherwise yeah, you can't license a work without holding its copyright, and this slop definitely wasn't copyrightable.

@ldottxt@kind.social my generous interpretation is "you can negotiate your hours, and your pay rate is negotiable between $55-65K if you work full-time 35h/wk but prorated according to actual hours worked". So if you negotiate a $65K salary and 20h/wk, your pay would be 65K*20/35. I had (have?) a similar arrangement with my employer where I worked less than full-time (37.5h/wk) and every couple of years I might adjust my hours/wk and my pay would adjust accordingly. (I am very lucky)
