@hal_pomeranz@infosec.exchange General curiosity here. If you do languages, do you have a go-to problem you know how to solve that you use to learn a new one? I do Conway's Life. It's pretty simple, and then you can add all sorts of stupid as you learn more.

Some place automatically 86 resumes without a degree. 😒 Audacity is potentially useful as well. When I was younger, and the Web was weirder, I just dropped by the local ISP and told them I could make their web page better with the power of "DHTML" , and I'd send them a link to my homepage. It got me a bit of consulting, then an offer for full time, and I progressed from there.

@MamaLake Generally buy the book on paper, because mmmmm book smell. Plus the heft makes it more "real" and satisfies my muscle memory. Then if I really liked it, I'll grab an ebook version to read on my phone because I can't schlep around a 600 page tome on the regular. If it's just a snack book, then it's ebook version from the start. There's an urban fantasy series I like a lot, but not something I can curl up on the sofa and read until I finish it at 1 am.
