I have been directly involved in the fight for queer rights in canada for over 10 years, and have had to (many times) move and change industries because of coordinated violence campaigns. opsec is something I need to practice as a person for the safety of my family and friends, and this shit is not good opsec (also I recognize that im already breaching opsec containment a little bit by operating mutual aid but like fuck that shit girls gotta eat)

Because so many people have no idea how these programs work or the positions they put people in. And because goddamnit people need to know what their relatives and friends are going through. People deserve better than these programs allow. People deserve better than the basic amount for mere survival. I wasn’t really ever into the record until I heard the tale of them writing the song to refute the accusation that they were “simply space rock”. Wtf do you mean, a sonic exploration of the depths of the ocean - okay sign me tf up. But alas, my love is truly for the 12 part epic “Echoes” on the back of the record. One of These Days is definitely also on my most listened too list. I too tired of the wall fairly quickly - after i stopped doing drugs like every day. I still have a deep love of it, but thats mostly due to personal story reasons. I haven’t spent nearly as much time with Sheep as I’d care to admit, I’ll have to put the album on next time i sit down to listen to music. Oh god i feel like i need to pick a favorite or two now and i just… fuck lol. K, in no particular order: Echoes (pts 1-12), Speak To Me into Breath (In the Air) is still one of my favorite sonic experiences of all time — but honestly its just the entirety of the first side of dark side of the moon (cliche as it is). I’ve also recently fallen in love with Umaguma, but I couldn’t place a particular song. Also feel like i need to throw out A Great Gig in the Sky

Our local communities are really heavily invested in “civility” and “respectability”, so if people have even the slightest tinge of displeasure in their voice it gets outright ignored and vilified. My local pride board discusses my every move in public on their official channels because I am very vocal about how they are organizing (I was a pride organizer for a couple years). A few months ago they announced spending $5k on a Ru-Paul Queen performance. I popped up in the comments with a quick calculation on how many trans people could’ve received HRT care for a year on that dollar amount. I later confirmed that the Pride board ridiculed my suggestion and claimed that it was just more proof that trans people shouldn’t be part of Pride. If you want to be heard in our local by the Pride boards, better learn to slide in a dagger while beefing up your targets ego with a smile.

@evan@cosocial.ca @alice@lgbtqia.space @matty@blahaj.zone this feels... half baked at best. with the rate at which new servers enter the network - especially malicious ones - this could be easily abused to maintain regular surveillance of communities that are actively opting out. what my understanding of your statement reads as is "malicious actor spins up malicious open reg. server, bots a couple thousand registrations, spams known targets, suddenly has polluted the opt-out model." which like, opt out is also pretty sketchy - especially given the prominence of activists, advocates, and journalistic reporting hotlines that continue to be used on the wider fedi. opt in is a much better solution. it provides a feature that people can utilize, but doesnt compromise opsec of individuals who don't have that risk tolerance. (context: I've been directly involved in political advocacy and direct action for trans/queer rights since before it was legal to do so and have had to lock down as hard as I can to survive. the internet is a double edged sword filled with amazing opportunities for action but also filled with people intent on bringing people harm (think kiwi farms)).

I've been power using a MacBook Pro M1Pro 14" since like 2021 and it's been nothing but a joy to use. incredible battery life, renders 8k video faster than the video itself, etc. and it weighs very little for the power it packs - it usually lives in my camera bag while im on a photography trip and I dont even notice. totally recognize the privilege I had at the time to spend $3k cad on a laptop, but its continued to be worthwhile having. I wouldn't recommend going with less than 16gb of ram or even some of the later M3/M4 machines as ive heard rough things about build quality, but yknow... a thought.

a pal in my local area shared a photo of some anti homeless infrastructure on instagram today. so I went to share it to my stories, and every time I tried to post it IG would tell me it was inflammatory.

I had to be so milquetoast about it that it made me feel sick. the spot it was installed on was one that I used to kill time when I had no where to go.

fuck censorship. fuck anti homeless architecture. our houseless relatives are our family, friends, and lovers. not fucking pests

Man it’s so fucking cool that I can just like. Learn a skill, make something, and sell it. Like don’t get me wrong I’m very poor still but like. At least I can make money with my own two hands without relying on other people? Idunno. Just feels cool.
