@quinn@social.circl.lu @rysiek@mstdn.social At the time I was part of the network engineering team at the University of Pennsylvania. We were having a discussion about what we should use for our campus information system. We felt that Gopher was not so user friendly, and the world wide web was just too new. So we decided to develop something ourselves. Sigh. Needless to say, that project never really got off the ground as everything rapidly shifted to HTML and the web.

I've heard several mondegreens for different lines in the chorus of Boston's "More Than a Feeling", but mine was always the second line. The correct lyrics are: "It's more than a feeling (More than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (More than a feeling) And I begin dreaming (More than a feeling) 'Til I see Marianne walk away I see my Marianne walkin' away" But my brain changed "When I hear that old song they used to play" to "When I heard that old song yesterday". I must have sung it that way for decades before I happened to look at the lyrics. Boston, "More Than a Feeling" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4QK8RxCAwo (Incidentally, after watching this video I am convinced that Tom Scholz was an early pioneer of the Shoegaze movement) #TuneTuesday #MistakenLyrics

Painting a grim picture of the #WPBL’s internal and external communications. As a hard-core fan of the league I have personally found this frustrating, but they’re also jerking around prospective players and the few media outlets wanting to cover the nascent league. Also the last-minute ESPN media deal sabotaged a number of sports bars that had scheduled watch parties. I hope the league can do better next season. https://defector.com/the-new-womens-pro-baseball-league-offers-hope-and-frustrations

The New Women's Pro Baseball League Offers Hope—And Frustrations | Defector

For most women who play baseball in the United States, playing America’s pastime in a professional league has been little more than a dream. Yet for a select group of women, that dream is becoming a reality.  The Women’s Pro Baseball League began its inaugural season on Aug. 1, with the four-team league playing all…

@DemonHusky@mas.to @thomasconnor@mstdn.social @my_roxbury@better.boston Choosing “home cities” for the #WPBL teams from the major sports media markets—even though all games are in Springfield, IL—is kind of cheesy. But I hope it is successful in generating fan interest. I’d be happy for ESPN to move the games to their “ESPN zone” ballpark here at Orlando Disney World though. It’s a beautiful little park and much more convenient to me!

Each month could have six day or five day weeks with an arbitrary number of work vs non-work days. Or do away with weeks and months entirely and just count days. These are all choices.

Here's a challenge for all you Linux DFIR types that I've never been able to satisfactorily solve: You have multiple Linux disk images that were all derived from a common base image. Consequently, they have duplicate LVM2 group names, volume GUIDs, etc. You'd like to be able to mount the images simultaneously, but Linux doesn't allow mounting LVM volumes with duplicate names. To date, the only solution I have found is to make a working copy of the image and then destructively rename things with vgrename, etc. Yes, you could use overlayfs, but that effectively makes a working copy in the merged directory and adds additional overhead. What I want is a way in Linux to add an on-the-fly copy on write cache file to absorb any changes necessary to the underlying image file so that the underlying image is not impacted. Has anybody come up with a workable solution? #Linux #DFIR

@csem_cn@mstdn.social In the worst case scenario, you have to rename multiple layers: VG name— vgrename Volume GUIDs— vgchange -u PV GUID— pvchange -u File system GUIDs— tune2fs (EXT) or xfs_admin (XFS) You can do all of this to your working copy without impacting other data in the file system. Once all the changes are made, you can mount the images side by side. Why do you want to do this? Because each image has unique data—logs, OS changes, user data, etc. Being able to look at them side by side has value.

It's difficult to decide which Al Stewart song to use for today's category, because so many of his lyrics use historical events as a metaphor. But here are a couple of my favorites: Al Stewart, "Man For All Seasons" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzI_rqO0nE4 Al Stewart, "Laughing Into 1939" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eD6YU98tLY #JukeboxFridayNight #History

Early in our relationship, Danielle was dealing with a terrible migraine and her normal medications were not helping. I was feeling helpless as she cried in my arms from the pain. I quietly sang this song to her as I held her and she settled and was able to drift off to sleep. @csem_cn@mstdn.social The use case is forensic investigation. I am currently working a case with multiple images that all have duplicate LVM and file system GUIDs because they were all cloned from the same base image. I can mount any single image with no problem. But the minute I go to mount another image, the OS refuses because of duplicate GUIDs.
