A few years back, someone posted this picture they took in a hostel somewhere in Europe. I have no idea who the original poster was.

This, is a local tourist attraction in Calhoun Georgia. You can search for rock garden Calhoun, Georgia in Google Maps to get to it. It’s free. It’s behind the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It was never intended to be a tourist attraction. It’s been in maintenance for the past six years. This is one of about 14 to 17 similar structures.
It’s taller than I am. It’s made from quick Crete and Home Depot sand.
I’ll post more pics over the next week.

If you are growing bell peppers, here’s something to remember. If you pick them while they are still dark green, then you will get pepper after pepper after pepper. If you let them turn yellow or red or whatever their ripe color is then the plant will stop producing.
That’s why it’s pretty common to see yellow and red bell peppers priced just a little bit more than the dark green ones

I have no idea if this story (which I got from Discord) is true or not. But it is a very cute story regardless, so I’m posting it here.

Here in the North Georgia USA mountains people are always dying - well, a few each year at least, because they got too damn close to a cliff’s edge.
So I think this particular form of stupidity is just ingrained in the human psych

Oh, I meant to post this earlier, but when I drove by some road construction this morning, the work crew was all female. From the heavy equipment operators down to the folks holding the signs.

@LokeMani@homestead.social that is a remarkably pretty snake! It looks like it probably shed fairly recently. Everything is nice and sharp colored.

This podcast episode is crackling good. That unisexual salamander complex is absolutely crazy. It uses the sperm of five different species of salamander to trigger its egg production. It’s a polyploidy complex - well, the majority are a tetraploidy. The unisex lineage has been around for over 2 million years.
The bit on dragonfly migration is equally fascinating

@zdl@gamerplus.org @futurebird@sauropods.win @llewelly@sauropods.win spiders don’t bother me. It was the Numbers, the dark, and the discovery of the light reflecting of of their eyes.
It’s a phenomenon that only happens when the light source is close to your eyes. Translation it really only happens when you’re using headlamps.

Spider fear. In the early days of my relationship with my ex-wife, we went on a hike. We got lost.
We were wearing headlamps. Dark comes. It’s a dry night. But there are little pin points of light all through the woods around us. Just little glints.
Eventually, I comment on them. My ex tells me they are spider eyes reflecting light.
I scoff. I investigate.
She is right.
Dozens of wolf spiders were all looking at our lost in the woods asses. Skeeved me right out.

@danmccullough@ecoevo.social decades ago my father transplanted some of these into the Pine Woods next to my folks old house because my mama really liked them.
He knew to grab a big old chunk of dirt from around them. So they’ve grown there ever since. This year for the first time we found some on the other side of the house in another patch of Pinewoods.
They are very pretty flowers.

@chgowiz@dice.camp @wulfric@beige.party you’ve looked on that repeater website to be sure that there’s not a repeater anywhere near you?
I’m lucky enough here in Georgia to live in an area where it’s pretty active.

From the article
“My feeds have always been a mix of far-flung relatives, old friends, and high school band chums (because, let’s be honest, band buddies are the best buddies)“
And
“The Death of the Status Update: Why 55% of Americans Stopped Posting on Social Media
If scrolling feels more exhausting than entertaining, you're not alone. I feel the same way, and a recent study backs up the sentiment: Social media is losing its fun factor“

@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net well I don’t mind acronyms, so long is at some point somewhere there is an explanation of what the acronym is for. Because it does bug the shit out of me if I cannot find what the acronym stands for and somebody’s going on and on about something that sounds vaguely interesting. But I don’t know what it is!

No, I don’t know a freely available spot so or even an unfree one for that matter. So I guess it’ll fail to one day grace the halls of monsterdon unless it comes back around.

@crowbriarhexe@tech.lgbt i’m sorry. I don’t actually watch the movies. I just love reading the comments most days. some weekends I’m just not in the mood.
But I have stopped watching movies and reading books, simply because a dog died. So I can relate to you doing the same for a cat dying.
