This interview is great bc Doctorow (@pluralistic@mamot.fr ) is discussing/debating "AI" with someone who disagrees with him but can be persuaded by logic and evidence. Doctorow is countering common beliefs about "AI" using evidence straight from his books. #AI #computers #LLM #hype #AIBubblehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTqCVJFr7XM&list=WL&index=2

I've been using and programming computers for decades now. I'm almost ashamed to admit I just figured out how to make the cursor disappear this morning. printing "\033[?25l" --turns the cursor off printing "\033[?25h" --turns it back on Convert to your language of choice as needed. I of course now have to bolt this onto about 3 dozen Perl scripts. Incidentally, this came about because I decided I wanted a command line stopwatch app that didn't suck. The cursor made it ugly, so I figured out how to get rid of it. Necessity is the mother of invention. #UNIX #computers #programming

This is my Veronica Explains appreciation post… If you want to learn super-cool things about computers and Linux (and how to mix them together), Veronica’s channel is the place. https://makertube.net/c/veronicaexplains/videos @veronica’s channel is probably my favorite on PeerTube. One of her videos even helped me to get Linux running on my old MacBook. So if you like this kind of thing, I recommend adding her channel to your subscription list. Oh, and if you don’t have a PeerTube account, you can subscribe via RSS or as a podcast feed (PeerTube is rad that way). #Linux #Computers #VeronicaExplains #PeerTube

Migrating from toot.community to cupoftea.social so here's an #introduction ... I'm Hilly, #GenX dad. I love messing on with #computers and #gameconsoles #handheldgaming #MiSTerFPGA, and my #ThinkPad . Really getting into #linux recently, daily driving #CachyOS and runnning #Debian and #AntiX on some older laptops too. Music is important to me, lots of #90s stuff like #grunge #indie #britpop #triphop and also current artists like #MagdalenaBay #AmylandtheSniffers and #CowboyHunters . I believe that this is ife and there's nowt after it so might as well get on with everyone and the big roundie under my feet.

I'm so glad I never gave #Framework my money. Dodged a Nazi bullet. I would have learned about #Omarchy and then *hated* the machine I was using. I wouldn't even be able to give it away in good conscience. #FOSS #FLOSS #OpenSource #Linux #computers #laptops #fascism

#linux #linuxmint #thinkpad #pc #computers

All computers are beautiful and deserving of love. ❤️ Please do not abuse or neglect your computer's needs: Computers are warm volted, this means they generate their own heat. To avoid overheating they need to respirate, so please make sure your computer has adequate ventilation and clean air. In the summer, please do not leave a laptop in the car without shade or ventilation. Please do not overfeed it. Too much voltage may make it sick and die. Make sure to groom your computer and give it the occasional air blower bath, otherwise the heat-sinks will become matted from dust build up and your computer will get hot and uncomfortable. Please do not force your computer to do evil things. Some programs are poisonous to computers, if you're unsure about a program, you can submit it to virus total for nutritional analysis. Treat your computer with loving care and it will love you back. ❤️ #PC #computers #petgrooming #petcare #techsupport
