An #introduction! I am evilchili (he/him). For 35 years I worked in the tech industry. Now I'm on my New Game+. I make #resin dice. I've been running a #dnd game for the same group every two weeks for 9 years. I homebrew relentlessly, and never met a system I didn't want to tinker with. Been a while. Lets do a new #introduction post. I'm Erika, a Canadian with a cat, a husband, and my first baby on the way (due in October). :QueerCat_Autism: 2026 has been a year of big changes for me. I lost someone close to me, been #Pregnant every day of the year so far, started a new job, and will be moving into my new home in the next month or two. I'm looking forward to re-watching Twin Peeks with my husband in the newborn sleep-deprived trenches. Hobbies at the top of my mind right now are writing to #PenPals, #Reading, #Journaling, #Knitting, and figuring out my ideal use of #ObsidianMD. I also enjoy all sorts of #Crafting such as #Crochet, #CrossStitch, #SlowStitching, #Mending, #NeedleFelting, and #BookBinding. I do a lot of the #Cooking and #Baking in my home since I don't have a commute outside of my cat tripping me on my way to and from my office. Other things I spend my time on include #TarotReading, #FountainPens, #DnD, #SoloRPG, #HousePlants, #CozyGames. I'm really looking forward to getting back to #WeightLifiting and my usual #Yoga. I'm still a #Salesforce consultant, focused on not-for-profits. And, of course, I like ants.

At #Blissfest this year, both my volunteer shifts went to the Kids area. We set up various arts and crafts for them to do. It lets them exercise some creativity, and sometimes we can sneak in useful skill learning. It's very freeform though. One of the activities ended up being a variant of "worry dolls" (Muñecas quitapenas). This is a doll that one can whisper their worries to and the doll will let them be free of the worries overnight. Practically, it is basically a confidant, and some of these kiddos had strong opinions on what makes such an entity trustworthy. Kids at this festival are feral to an extent (absolutely delightful). Sewing friends, Costco is selling the Singer Heavy Duty machine for $179.99, which is a great price. This is a really nice general purpose machine for starting your sewing hobby! It'll make crafts, clothes, bags, quilts, it's a good little tank.

• It can easily handle things like denim or canvas, two fabrics a lot of beginning sewists using for things like bags and totes

• It has a strong motor and with regular maintenance will last a long time (I wish I'd kept mine!)

• Specialty presser feet can be a hidden expense with sewing, sometimes they're hard to find in different brands (my Bernina's feet are hard to locate). But Singer's feet are generic and you can get variety packs for $20, very nice!

I feel like schools should do more to warn people about gateway crafts. I started doing some embroidery, it's not too expensive, it doesn't take up too much space. Then I got a second-hand sewing machine, pretty versatile and that should be me sorted right? NO! It is not enough! YouTube is aggressively pushing me knitting and crochet content. I was seriously considering getting a loom and learning to weave. A LOOM!! Be careful out there kids.
