@newsguyusa@flipboard.social Don't believe it without proof. Anything related to money you can't trust 47 not to lie about, if it suits his purpose. No reason for this backtrack except that it might lose him some votes.

@AnnieBuddy@thecanadian.social The only reason this is allowed is because Americans pay to do so. It's all about money. None of these so-called outfitters and guides gives a damn about the wildlife. The US has driven all its wildlife to extinction, so now they want to kill ours while they still can.

@TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world @ZenHeathen@beige.party @AnnieBuddy@thecanadian.social Agreed, First Nations should be able to control what happens on their territory. However we have no idea how many of any species still exist, yet we allow virtually unregulated hunting by foreigners - some of whom don't even obey existing laws. Let First Nations hunt as they need to - but trophy hunting should be banned. At the least, let's ban dead animals or parts from crossing the border. Hit the rich assholes.

@blogdiva@mastodon.social The real danger of destroying books is that once the hard copy is gone, the digital books can be either deleted and/or their existence denied, or access to them controlled. POWER is why they are doing this - and likely they hope to make money selling digital access. And what are they doing with the books when they're done with them - burning or pulping them?

@MaryAustinBooks@mstdn.social I don't think there's a violin small enough to play for this turkey. Karma is glorious sometimes.

@TrueNorthSpice@mastodon.world Ya gotta love it. When the chips are down, the Tories ride off in all directions. The Grits on the other hand, stick together. And when given the choice between slogan man and someone with genuine cred ...

@tod@hci.social We get their wildfire smoke up here in BC, and on Monday we'll start getting their heat wave (thanks to El Nino). Why doesn't it stop at the border? They should do something about it!

@NMBA@mstdn.ca Politicians have little regard for voters, except when an election is pending. We don't need them to deliver a message to the tech bros. Just turn them off, leave, delete, refuse to play their game. Seriously, it's easy and you'll have more time to do other things, save money and have less stress. Amazon has been laying off wholesale and delivery times are longer. Only one reason for that - less sales. It works.

@dyckron@cosocial.ca They already do so, as has been proven. So now they're admitting it, or are they warning all Chinese wherever they are that they'd better do what they're told by Big Brother?

@NMBA@mstdn.ca Burn the tech bros who are pulping books in a most modern fashion. Better yet, get off the AI bandwagon. It will never do what is best for humanity, because we all know how much of that the tech bros have.

@NMBA@mstdn.ca So the US will not be able to assert its version of 'democracy' - i.e. profit/money/pillage first, the rest a dice toss, later - beyond its own borders. Taiwan and Asia are able to protect themselves. Ukraine is proving the US is not needed. Russia is losing. Iran isn't the paper tiger 47 thought it was. Israel can't get weapons that don't exist. Great news all around.

@chris@mstdn.chrisalemany.ca Meanwhile, the pompous turkey with the red tie looks like he's taking a nap standing up.

@angusm@mastodon.social But at least everyone knows who to blame if a person makes a mistake, or is 'lazy and dumb'. How do you get satisfaction from AI? Pull out the plug? Anyone who relies on AI gets what they deserve - artificially-generated responses (intelligence doesn't come into it).

@matt303@cyberplace.social Large tech companies only care about money and what they can monetize. If you enable them - whether internet email, glasses, smart phones, cams, etc, - you're giving them permission to use you.

@mike@thecanadian.social My experience was different (maybe it has changed?). What I got at first was everything in the public column, then I fine-tuned by following what interested me to get it into my 'Home' feed. I have just the two active columns. I block what doesn't interest me to make it easier to see what does. Overall, a much richer experience than 'X'. Seen almost no trolls. So thanks for that, Mike, and all the other administrators.

@nat@kind.social When this happened in the past (yes, it did). people switched to washable diapers - far healthier and better for the environment. If this crisis brings that back, it will be a good thing.

@Tamtam@mastodon.de Perhaps this is true in politics, but in grassroots community groups, it's women who speak up and who do most of the work. Men are not great organizers - but can use their contacts to good advantage. These groups are strong because both men and women use their skills fully.

@ManyRoads@mstdn.social Promises, pause, psychopathic posturing, patronizing petulance, premature peace, prevarication. Repeat daily.

@crinstamcamp@thecanadian.social Good luck with that. The 'public' in the US has not yet woken up to what they have created. And most don't care because they never have. The US political system is divorced from reality and always has been. Only the truly engaged understand it and want change. There aren't enough of them.

@DenisCOVIDinfoguy@aus.social Duh. A lot of people in a confined space - where it only needs one with a bug to spread it to many others - who'd a thunk it? Never understood the attraction.

@nat@kind.social My SIL started using washable diapers because of the cost of the disposable ones (this was in the 90s). Babies use a lot of diapers, and she found a place that made really nice cotton ones with padding. I'm sure they're still available. I remember diaper services, before disposables. We were in a duplex and the lady above us kept them in a pail in the hallway for pickup. You can imagine the smell. Some things have improved.

@unruly Fascists are here, but Canadians don't want them. Here they drive monster pickups, wave giant flags, play war games and pretend to be real men. They're fascist wannabes - and we all know it. They don't get elected unless they lie about what they are.

@eco-g Instead of controlling the message, you're wasting time responding to lies. Go on the offensive!

@eco-g The problem with Green platforms, everywhere, is that a simple issue needs too much explanation. Keep it simple and direct. Regards flying - "Less flying, more public transit'. That's it. Forget the reasoning, justifications and other options. ''Houses for Humans', 'No Nukes', 'Power to the People;, etc. Slogans have their place in politics. Use them - the opposition does, and that's why they win.

@Cassandra@ottawa.place Are people really that stupid? If they offer a vaccination, we get it. We've had every single Covid vax since they became available. Ditto any other free vaccination (flu, pneumonia). Why take chances?

@votetanille@socialbc.ca Long on flash. short on detail. Typical and probably awful.

@NMBA@mstdn.ca You don't have to dress in designer clothing, but if you don't care enough to dress appropriately the court WILL notice. It's like going for a job interview - your character will be judged by what you wear. Don't expect that to change.

@NMBA@mstdn.ca Rage bait is everywhere. Just assume if someone is stating a strong opinion about anything, they are part of the problem. Solutions are elsewhere. Do your own research. Big social media is killing itself chasing less money and fewer idiots. Let it go.

@TJ1001@mastodonapp.uk Hitler is laughing in his grave. The very people he tried to destroy are now using his methods to justify their own antisemitism (Palestinians. Arabs and Lebanese are all Semites too).

@Cassandra@ottawa.place BC is pretty good. They offer the vax free and they have a way to book, although it would be a challenge to get a convenient time if we weren't retired. If a vax is offered there must be a reason - or they would just save the money. Have not noticed any claim that covid or anything else is 'over', except by idiot influencers on social media. People who believe them deserve what they get.

@DWTSquawk7600@worldkey.io And then there are those with no dishwasher who use a counter rack.

@whn@forall.social I just got my notice for the latest Covid vax from BC Health, but can't get past the first page (typing in health number) - so presume the site is either down or oversubscribed. Unlikely to be the latter. No explanation of course.

@Cassandra@ottawa.place I've noticed - but what 'most of society' says is the worst possible excuse for not getting vaccinated. 'Most of society' also elected Trump. Need I say more?

@SueInRockville@mstdn.social 47's successor had better do an audit. Bets are the US taxpayer actually paid this. He has never paid for anything.

@threedollarchickenparm@mstdn.ca @mgeist@mas.to Transparency, I agree, is key. I don't trust big tech to provide it. I use a lot of open source software myself and what I do online is limited and as safe as I can make it. As for Bill C-22, access must require a warrant, with specifics, just as if they came into your home - and with a report/record. Any data not needed should be deleted permanently. Backdoors are commonly in hardware, - but can use embedded aps not available to the user.

@NMBA@mstdn.ca There are lots of agencies that will help people dress appropriately for court appearances. Granted some may not be willing to ask, or are so far gone they can't.

@hewer_of_code@mstdn.ca In Vancouver it was a bit of a joke - because of the age and wealth of the players. That was a long time ago, so I don't know what the situation is now.

@crinstamcamp@thecanadian.social When 47 himself is in denial about how the war started and who is continuing it (with US money and armaments), what do you expect from the public?

@the5thColumnist@ottawa.place The separatists won't be able to deliver anything. If there's one thing Albertans hate, it's being told what to do - by anyone.

@NMBA@mstdn.ca Fact is, attire in the courtroom is accepted as important, no matter what the trial is about. To see an extreme example of this, watch the movie "Love Among the Ruins' with Lawrence Olivier and Katherine Hepburn. Appearances ARE everything.

@Free_Press Genius has definite limits, stupidity none (paraphrasing Einstein). Guess which category Trump falls into?

@Cassandra@ottawa.place It doesn't matter what the population in the US is. What counts is who voted - same as here. 47 won because he got the most votes. Period. It's a lesson to all those who who didn't vote, for whatever reason. It can happen in Canada too - and was very close last election. We get less than half the voters actually voting. Funny how conservatives always get their people to vote. Maybe because they hate social justice and real democracy. PP is their star. That tells you everything

@markgrieveson@mindly.social Carney is doing what has to be done to diversify our economy and yet face the reality of a mad bully south of the border. The loser will be the US in the first case, and the second case needs careful work. I don't see the leadership of the CPC as able to nuance either situation.

@threedollarchickenparm@mstdn.ca @mgeist@mas.to If you think Signal doesn't already have backdoors and access to your personal info, you're living in fantasy land. They can promise security, but that means nothing if they're offered enough money, or they go bankrupt. There are NO safeguards for your data online, except not to give anyone access to it.

@NMBA@mstdn.ca There could be more 'closed' courtrooms, but then the public's right to know is at risk. Public perception is just as rigid as the court's - it's societal. People judge and always have. This affects all of us, and not just in the courtroom. Nothing much has improved and a lot has got worse.

@vicorva Agree. It's something you can't put down and it's so incredibly well done. Never predictable, always gritty, memorable.

@mgeist@mas.to Why are you bellyaching about Bill C-22, when the tech bros are already stealing all your personal data, and have backdoors to every device, ap and piece of software you use? I'd rather there was a law whereby police and others have to to justify it. I sure don't trust the tech bros - or their apologists - to have any morality or legal qualms about what they are already doing.

@hewer_of_code@mstdn.ca Anywhere there's wealthy seniors, there's a club. Maybe still in the UK. Were a thing for a long time in parts of wealthy Vancouver.
