@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange I've also had some success unlocking some tight response patterns in my head by literally reading a paragraph sentence-by-sentence, but in reverse, from the end to the beginning.
Maybe it's just about taking the moment of mindfulness that doing this requires. Often times I've realized they are aiming at a different point or conclusion than I was assuming they were making.
Reading a sentence in reverse, word by word, is also a great way to find typos that your brain glosses over.

@AnotherJen@mindly.social This is factual, one of my friends here in Virginia is finalizing arrangements of this for his trans son right now. It's such a relief to everybody. He is heading up there this summer and starting college.

@Willow@chaosfem.tw There's a lot of different ways! Would your friend want to know more about the physical changes, or the inner ones?
I was 37 when I started, and according to my endo at the time I was perimenopausal. The most desired trait was the relatively fast cessation of periods -- after about a month and a half they were dramatically reduced, and three months had them gone. My voice dropped rather quickly, though I still had to do some practice before I was understood as male over the phone. I've heard that older trans men sometimes have their voice go deeper more quickly than younger trans guys. That was another welcome change.
As an older trans guy I saw hair thinning starting at about the second year. Your body tends to try and catch up to where your age thinks a cis hairline would be, based on your family. Thus I transitioned into a 40-year-old hairline, rather than a young man's masc hairline. So after the first year or two, finasteride might be good to take to halt hair loss (not sooner, to prevent it interfering with bottom growth).
For older trans guys, it's kind of a wild ride as you start with puberty just like every trans person who takes hormones...but then your body and mind spend the next five or so years fast-forwarding from 13 to your current biological age. It's a different ride from a younger trans guy. There can be a lot of grief and anger about missed time -- but also, the appreciation of having lived two full sets of gender experiences.
I've been on testosterone for a little over 9 years now. I've loved every minute of it and cannot think of anything I regret. 💜

@Rob_T_Firefly@masto.hackers.town This just reminded me of a dream I had during a nap today:
I finished a crossword puzzle, then found out I could turn it in to a local radio station for $100. So I used the money to take the train to Belgium, and see a Venjent concert with someone from Mastodon.
Gripping content, I know.

@Zahlenzauberin@dresden.network @Willow@chaosfem.tw It might be worth timing any HRT to coincide with winter, though. It makes a body run hotter and adapting to that was easier for me over the winter.

@Zahlenzauberin@dresden.network @Willow@chaosfem.tw If one is already into perimenopause enough to have serious hot flashes, my un-educated guess is that HRT would speed them up, then make them stop. And that it might not take very long? You go through a kind of accelerated menopause from testosterone.
YMMV, but I went from beginning-perimenopause to "done with this s**t" in like 5 months.

I urgently need $120, please. After dropping my housemate at work, on the off-ramp of the interstate, I ran over something and busted a hole in her car tire.
I felt it but since the car seemed to drive fine, I just carefully rolled the last mile home. Now it's sitting in the driveway with one hell of a flat. It looks like half an Allen wrench is sticking out of it. I can get the donut on it, but it will need a new tire most likely. I called the nearest place and they said it would be about $120 if I could get it there.
This is our only car, and I not only have to pick my housemate up from work in a bit, but I also have to go sign the paperwork for my new part time job this afternoon.
We're broke as hell after paying rent and bills and setting up the hotel and cat sitter for my housemate's transgender bottom surgery in a couple weeks. Can you please help me cover a new tire? I'm sorry to come hat-in-hand again, but this is extremely urgent.

@Zahlenzauberin@dresden.network @Willow@chaosfem.tw I did have some mild heat flashes, I'd say for the first 4 months. I had not yet had them prior to HRT. In my experience they didn't last long, and they were brief, like I'd want to take my shirt off for a few minutes. I remember then being a late-evening thing. No night sweats.

I really feel for you all, and relate to this.
I was a queer, autistic trans kid, an only child, disguised as a little girl in the Deep South. I had horribly abusive and isolating parents.
Without the ability to express myself in a private diary and laptop, and escape to school to be something closer to the "real me" with friends and on the early school internet, I would not have lived past 15. It was a close enough thing as it was.
If my parents had full control and surveillance of my whole life? Forget it.
Parents don't need more tech help to invade their kids' sense of self.
They need more time for their own mental health and Apple can't give them that.

Learning from Vimto's Wikipedia page that it was suitable for vegans until very recently when they added vitamin D, which is derived from...

Reading comprehension is about what you get out of the *second* read-through, IMHO.
