Tatterdemalion commission 🔥
It was great to work on this right after finishing the last chapter of Firmament - very cathartic, in a way. Can you translate all the Correspondence sigils? :D

This #ThrowbackThursday we time-travel back to 2008. I painted a mermaid with some butterflies, heavily inspired by the song "Pretty Fin" by Pati Yang.
From my 2010 mini Moleskine: studies of items that I own. And a guy that I saw outside the grocery store, balancing a shovel on his head. Yes indeed!
...and now I really miss recording my life through art.

The fun part of the artistic #ThrowbackThursday is that I get to skip down the memory lane and show you the art that is old, but still meaningful.
Today, it's a 2010 study of what used to be my favourite pair of shoes. I miss them! I still have the purple & orange bed cover, though.
Commission for Dara - a moment from her upcoming fanzine fic, where Sherlock and Jon are in their 50s. And as close as ever! :D
This was my first time ageing up characters! They're 21 originally. I hope I did them justice.
The two swallows are a reference to the game, though you may need a keen eye to catch it!

A little #ArtTip from my latest Ko-Fi post:
When working digitally, the typical cube or triangle colour wheels don't do a good job of showing the brighter hues intuitively. Here's a little trick: switch to the L*a*b colour space. It shows colour relations in a more natural way and it's much easier to adjust the sliders and get a good result.
I write art blogs each month and share thoughts and tips as they come up in my own paintings. The newest post:

@ashenwave@mastodon.art I share the same sentiment, Masto is great :)
And same with Bsky, I really don't get it and people don't interact and it's just weird. Idk why artists prefer it and how it can work well for anyone lol
RIP David Burke. One of the most wonderful Dr. Watsons to grace our screen. 😢

@ashenwave@mastodon.art Yeah... I guess I understand that part on a logical level, but it's also nonsensical to me.
When Bsky was new, I tried to strike up a conversation about how social media designs affects behaviour. Didn't get far with that. It makes me sad when I go on Bsky and see people still talk & act in abrasive ways, like on Twitter, and it just strengthens the negative loop!
"Big numbers" can be beneficial to a degree, but ultimately it's so meaningless.

What's interesting is that people can still see my posts on the "dashboard". I got comments and likes just now. I guess it's just the profile page that's unpublished/suspended until they get back to me? lol

@amxmln@mastodon.design @ashenwave@mastodon.art That's so sweet, and I feel the same way! It feels like a real community. We don't all have to be super close, but it's nice to have a chat and nod in each other's general direction every now and then.
Masto is more like the early Twitter or even Livejournal to me, heheh.

@valentine@flickering.style And it was all censored, too! I'm so tired of the payment processors dictating everything to THIS degree.

@feff@comicscamp.club Thank you 💖 Yeah, my biggest issue is that it happened for something that isn't even public. It says it can take a week for the appeal to go through. 😩

@tove@social.tovelago.se Thank you! It was such a flash-in-a-pan painting for me, I'm happy you like it. :)

@matildalove@wetdry.world I know places where that would be possible-ish, ahahahh! I hope you get to do your witchy stuff soon 💚

@lacybarry@climatejustice.social No, I feel ya. The ozempic situation is horrid and unhealthy for a myriad of reasons. We've regressed back a few decades thanks to how it's being marketed & who's profiting from it. Ugh.

@packetcat@tenforward.social Thank youuu! Glad that you mentioned the colours, this is a palette that I find difficult to pull off, so I tried really hard to make it work :D

@amxmln@mastodon.design UGH. They're really trying to price the average person out of having any control of their space on the Internet :(
Replying to
@lacybarry@climatejustice.social It's really so sad. I saw a video of the MET Gala being filmed from the street outside and it was the saddest, most dystopian thing ever.
My fit for the new Nikki story - we steampunk now! It's kinda fun because there's an entire city with automatons that you can ride and start/stop with the new abilities. :D

@thattagen@mastodon.art @ashenwave@mastodon.art Tumblr is a weird platform. It is the best for fandoms, but even then people tend to move the conversation to Discord (and, to a lesser extent, the communities). I find that original art can find its audience, but it's very random and you kind of have to get lucky with the correct tags or catch the eye of someone with a really big audience (which sucks lol).
