Best ways to spot them:
Check the ip on a site like ipqualityscore.com to see if it's from a datacenter or tor exit node.
Check if the domain of the signup emailadres is disposable using something like usercheck.com
Does the bio of the profile seem genuine? Take a section of it and search it between " " 's into a search engine and see if it matches an existing fedi profile, they often copy random profile's.
Doing this will find 95% of them

@liaizon@social.wake.st I was a bit surprised when I learned that Wikimedia foundation isn't a cooperative that is governed by it's members and everyone in the upper positions is essentially voted in. But it's not yeah
Which is why I had a very confused "huh?" When I heard about a Wikipedia union being formed one of two months ago

GamersNexus posted an update to their YouTube channel regarding this stuff about the LG monitors:

never in all my days did I think I'd have anything nice to say about noted felon & corrupt as shit Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton
but homie filed a suit against LG for spyware in 2024
LG captures TV images every 500ms and transmits it back to sell the information for profit. They also have been force-installing adware through their computer monitor software (Windows only, I would imagine)
great stuff as usual from #GamersNexushttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9uefFYe6bM

I'm really confused even after drying for 24 hours, the relative humidity percentage has not dropped.
It's not like the filament has been out much... I transferred it to the drybox right after I took it out of the plastic foil bag it was in and it's been closed for weeks #3dprinting

@davva23@kolektiva.social @FolksVelo@mas.to Unfortunately Google hasn't actually given us the software to detect these, so the best you can do right now is open Gemini and give it the image and ask if it's a Google AI or not. Which will use synth ID in the background to check.
BUT in this case it is extremely obvious because in the right bottom there is the Google Gemini logo xd

@Numerfolt@kirche.social @masek@infosec.exchange @simplelogin@fosstodon.org I forgot to mention that I also add a random string of characters to it.
So if I for example wanted to make an account on kirche.social, I would create an email like:
kirche.hqgj3@thibaultmol.link
The downside is that unless you are also using proton mail (which I think has it built-in at this point) you have to do an awkward workaround where I'll receive the email coming from a simplelogin email address but the email address will be named after the actual addr

@masek@infosec.exchange I use @simplelogin@fosstodon.org to have specific aliases per service (so not using wildcards) cause I figured that at some point they would figure out it's a wildcard and abuse it anyway. (plus with simplelogin i can easily disable one of the aliases to block it essentially)

@hrw@society.oftrolls.com the thing to keep in mind with Nova is that none of the original developers are working on it and I think the company only has a one or two people working on it after it got acquired (by some venture capital bs)
I basically consider it bloatware at this point.
I switch to smart launcher which actually has a nova configuration importer now

@hrw@society.oftrolls.com I didn't like the ownership change and I think I had some issue or two and so I switched to smart launcher with the import and it's working quite well. But fair enough

@davva23@kolektiva.social there's something about the colors and the composition that would have made me go "hmm, feels like ai". Even when there are not other signs tbh.
But then I go check with the previously mentioned tools.
When it comes to actual pictures (like, IRL) I tend to do the same but also use a bunch of common sense and follow the advice of Jeremy https://www.youtube.com/@JeremyFindsAI/shorts

@davva23@kolektiva.social @FolksVelo@mas.to it's hard to explain but there's a general vibe to the image.
To fully verify it I would generally throw it in
https://sightengine.com/detect-ai-generated-images
It's not perfect but it's pretty good.
Another thing I would do is check if it has a Google synthid mark. This is a pattern in the image that is not detectable by the human eye, but can be detected using software. .

@onepict@chaos.social @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu if you're wondering why these exact images were chosen, probably related to them being used for ai (machine learning) image recognition training. Early models used to confuse that cupcake for a dog, that donut/bagel for a dog, etc
but as eu said, they're all real images
