I started ringing this bell as Cheney & Dubya barfed Fascist language & the culture industry leapt into chorus. I was handed eyerolls & told that I call everything I don’t like Fascist (not true! I don’t like stupid and ugly things for different reasons!). Over the decades, I’ve gotten a LOT of mumbled apologies. It took TEN YEARS of this santorum before anyone with a voice started saying maybe it’s ok to use words to mean what they mean. So I went to her site, and sure enough! A tram ride would allow us to rest our feet anyway.

Then I looked up and saw a poster right in front of us for the show.

I sure wish they’d use more than one door though. At Heathrow yesterday I saw some jetways that could connect to three doors at a time but of course we only used one. Less practically? Then everyone wouldn’t have to trudge through Bidness Class and see what they could have gotten for only 20x the price.

He was one of my first professors there, and he was surprisingly averse to creative solutions from firstyears — solutions he embraced a year later without credit. As Dean of CCS, he did some real harm to the pedagogy of the school before unceremoniously disappearing.

Bullies pick on the people most unlikely to fight back because they're afraid. You hit back, as hard as you can, and they fuckin run. You put snow down their shirt one time, and they start bowing their head when you pass them in gym class. And then the other bullies sense not to mess with you.

Christian moral purity is what got us where we are. Not hitting back makes more violence happen. Violence has knock-on effects, and it's not the best tool in the box, but sometimes it's the tool that fits the problem. Violence isn't the game. It's a tactic. The game is where we use every tool to make a more just society.

OTOH, French Revolution didn't have a way toward a functioning social democracy without executing the Noble class. Nobles stopped each other from devolving their power. The first result was their execution and the redistribution of their resources. The second was years of traumatic public executions based on rumor and petty dislikes.

Stilling gave me my kindest evaluation of my Hampshire career, which was basically “You worked really hard, and 90s neuroscience sure has a lot of unknowns.” (I had many other supportive evals that weren’t “You worked hard, but this isn’t the field for you.”)

@androidarts@mastodon.gamedev.place That’s an awful experience. That I’ve had so many times. Adobe InDesign has a bug where sometimes it quietly starts refusing to save. You don’t even know until you open the document back up. And then you have to copy the document over to a new one because that document will never save again. In Linux, I use Joplin for writing, in part because it autosaves to Dropbox (with other cloud options). It also has thought-organizing features, a bit like BBEdit, but deeper.
