I spend my time learning more about #electronics, #homeautomation, #sewing. Getting outside to ride my #bicycle and looking for #mushrooms on my walks is always a plus. #math, #python, #LaTeX, #cooking, #volunteering, #photography, and turn-based #jrpgs and tactics games.

@darkuncle@infosec.exchange I couldn't agree more. We're so addicted to performance and distracting ourselves with work. Bragging about how little we slept or how many extra hours we gave away for free and wearing like a badge of pride. "What do you do" as the go to question when meeting someone like that is all that defines them.
It's so lopsided.

I've self hosted before but from a vps for the static ip. I just learned about ASNs a few weeks ago when I found out IoT can still communicate direct to IP bypassing dns blocking on a home router. Still haven't implemented though. Always more to learn.
Also feel uncomfortable inviting traffic onto a home network too.

Then, in 2024, a chunk of SpaceX metal was found on a Canadian farm. SpaceX, which previously disagreed with the F.A.A. report, did not respond to questions. The company now says that about 5 percent of the mass of some satellites may not disintegrate.

@darkuncle@infosec.exchange that sounds like an excellent course. All my favorite professors already had a lifetime of experience and it was the perspective and nuggets of wisdom that set them apart.
I ran into this years ago. Haven't made my way through it but this conversation reminded me of it. Basically a graduate class to each grad students how to teach at MIT. They might have others.

@keithnator3000@universeodon.com you bet! Also if you want to engage with the bike community here, a good place to start is the #BikeNite hashtag. The link below explains the time, what to expect, and how to participate.

Personally I look forward to it every Friday night.

I've also wheeled it in on occasion. Two states and many grocery stores and big box stores, I've never heard a peep from anyone.

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A6 spending more money on a bike? Buying an ebike? Getting a more upright riding position? Whatever it takes to keep you riding, I think is good.
Otherwise I aspire to one day make my own jerseys. I don't see anything wrong with your hat though. The sun can be intense and I recently learned that bike caps can apparently help keep rain out of your eyes. I'll definitely be trying that.

@darkuncle@infosec.exchange that's at the heart of my original struggle with the professional realm out of college. I was reminded of it again while getting a masters 10ish years after undergrad. I really thrived in it. I loved learning for its own sake and at best companies might have a culture of it being ok to make mistakes but rarely was there a culture of learning as you go. They'd rather hire the skill than grow it.
The other part of it was clashing with "know it all" egos ... A topic for another day.

@darkuncle@infosec.exchange yeah ... The life of a professional student. It was also a dream of mine. Or becoming a monk, but I feel like that ship has sailed.
I always thought my second career would be teaching at a community college. Preferably electronics, but math would work too. I even checked job listings a few days ago. Maybe I should apply and see what happens instead of talking myself out of it.

@ascentale@sfba.social @MarkBrigham@universeodon.com @bikenite@fedigroups.social #BikeNite A7. I don't have any mile goals this year. Just to ride more and ride consistently. My ideal would be to ride at least an hour a day, 6x per week though. Far short on that, but also don't need encouragement.
Between heatwaves and getting sick, it's been rough. My last bike ride my heart rate was >20 bpm higher than my last time doing the same right a month ago. I feel like I still haven't gotten over it completely or something.

Also seems like there should be a script to add catsalad* to following lists. Welcome to Fedi! Run this script for maximum fun.

@syn_rst@norden.social @badsamurai@infosec.exchange I guess I always assumed that the router would look up the IP and see a substitution for an unreachable address.
Is AS Autonomous System?
I'll have to look up how to do this in OpenWRT.
If you know of a good resource for further reading would you mind sharing it? Also if there are reputable lists of IP/AS to drop, that'd be cool too. I'll go looking regardless but with AI slop I'm worried it might be hard to find.
Thanks for the knowledge and helping keep me safer.

I had one carbon bike with a cracked drive side chainstay. But I gave that to a friend after it sitting for a couple months. Paying for the repair was more than I paid for the used bike. Finding quality fiber was too much for me at the time. I didn't feel like parting it even though it was 2009 dura-ace. But that's how motivation goes sometimes.

@badsamurai@infosec.exchange Direct to IP means it can bypass DNS? So if you have a pi hole that is enforcing DNS on the network to drop the IPil, it still goes through?
If that's true, I have some very large misunderstandings about home router networking.

Fixing tree root bulges, expanding trails where narrow, making new trails, etc.

@sundogplanets@mastodon.social that stood out to me as well. Our regulatory system is a joke down here. I don't understand how damage to life or property is an acceptable risk for the regulatory bodies or cost of doing business. Well I can understand the cost of doing business given who's at the helm.
