it’s actually not “good“ for most of us to spend significant portions of every day watching tv, reels, or scrolling social media.

@TerminalTilt@social.terminaltilt.com though maybe the deck builder IS the natural result of trying to make rpg combat “more interesting.” fundamentally just changing what’s available to do on each turn, so you have a wider possibility space while narrowing each turn’s choices.
… but I have several ideas for NOT doing it this way, which I guess I need to try out! just wondering if anybody’s already made what I’m looking for

I know this is one of the things roguelike deck builders do. And I like a lot of them!
But there’s… there ARE other possibilities. run-based is fine I guess. but the deck building is bugging me (just in a game designer way of “there has to be something else we can do here”)
but if they’ve reframed the “acquired abilities” as party composition, could be a good variation!
I’ll report back :D

@supernovafiles@mastodon.gamedev.place I’ve had the most luck with 8bitdo controllers connecting to computers. dunno if they’re available in BRL, but they’ve worked well, connect reliably by wire or bluetooth, and I’ve always found them on sale (I think I’ve owned 3 or 4 over the last 10 years, mostly for a new feature or use case)

But instead we got a bunch of corporate tools that slammed all of it into javascript, written by folks (at facebook and microsoft, mostly) who don’t care about understanding the web as a platform because they think /they/ are they platform. React and its descendants are an attempt to abstract and coerce the web into corporate factory lines. It’s a real shame!

Yes, any given element of a web app needs layout, styling, and logic. HTML, CSS, JS. But putting the layout AND styling INSIDE the logic language is self-evidently a huge, wasteful mess 🤷♀️
My job makes me work in other people’s messy React all day, but before that I spent years keeping those concerns separate. JSX and CSS-in-JS are *terrible ideas*!
