one day, i would love to set up a room of TRS-80's and C64s and have a text adventure party. Is there any interest in new text adventures? are people still writing them?

I haven't used #Reddit in a whole bunch of years, but I'm wondering if I should start looking at a #Fediverse version of Reddit and which ones are out there right now.
I think I read somewhere that they could connect to #Mastodon
Maybe that'll be my digging around project for this afternoon

Oh, and it's super good for writing test suites because that's all drudgery and toil, but super necessary

Did you ever have that friend who always checked the coin return in every payphone that you passed?

I got a #Lemmy account set up on the #Fediverse at lemmy.radio, and I'm looking for suggestions for communities to follow that discuss things like:
- the Gemini Protocol
- Ham Radio Operation CW
- the Fediverse in general
- fountain pens and penmanship
- music synthesis
- Productivity and automation
- Software development on macOS
- HaikuOS
Let me know if you have any suggestions, and I'll subscribe.

So, tuning in to the QSO Today podcast, I heard about the 44net again. I haven't heard anything about this for maybe 30 years, and I think about 30 years ago I got an IP address connected to my call sign, but there wasn't enough activity in my area to become active.
started the process of verifying my call sign so I can see if my IP address is still connected.
This sounds like a huge rabbit hole that I have not been down in decades. Hoping there's something there and active now

Super impressed by the brute force efforts of my fair city, Ashland, Ohio.
If we had time and effort to throw at it, it might be fun to hack the data being gathered by #Flock cameras and rebroadcast it all in real time.
I would probably need to figure out how to stream over #Tor.

It's kinda like when I cut the cable and went streaming a whole long time ago. I had them come out and disconnect the cable, and nobody noticed for months
But when they did, they freaked out

Honestly, I do a lot of programming just using Claude code.
I don't really do vibe coding, but I stepped Claude through the architecture of the idea I'm working through.
It's not really vibe-coding. It's more like coaching a junior developer through an idea
And these are all really just apps that I've always wanted to have, but I never had the time to write them and dig through all of the APIs required

It's running emulated on UTM, so it's not native at all, and you can kind of tell

I am a medium-level victim of this new line.
It seems that now, since we're supposed to be immediately available to anyone at any time during the workday, people no longer examine their need for someone else's attention.
They're no longer formulating an agenda in their mind. When they talk to someone, it's too easy for them to ring you the second something comes to mind without fully fleshing out all of the ideas first.

AWESOME!
I think i first got licensed in 1992 in Ohio.. and i have only had #QRP until about 2 years ago, i got my first radio off the shelf. Yeasu FT-710. It's the first time i have ever had more than 12 watts ( i built an #elecraft k1 and k2)..
But I still love my QRP radios.
If i am totally being honest, I just ordered the QMX+ for me, too.
I still have never talked on the Yeasu or turned the power past 30 watts.

I kind of want to use it to write software on #HaikuOS just so I can see what it looks like when an application is put together without having to pore over all of the SDK documentation

3/4 obligatory #introduction: Also deep in amateur radio (KB8QPT) — QRP, CW, digital modes on HF, and lately poking at Meshtastic. Built an Elecraft K1 and K2 over the years.

I just had two younger people, one still in high school and one in their mid-20s, ask me if I would help them get their ham radio license.
Of course I will, and for each of them, I promised that if they get their license, I would buy them a QMX Plus kit from QRP Labs and get them active on CW and digital modes.
I'm actually kind of considering getting that ticket that lets you proctor the amateur radio exams

4/4 obligatory #introduction: Photography is the real jam — was a pro for years, gave it up because it ate all my time, still shoot what I want. Rebuilding this account from scratch after losing my whole server, so if any of this sounds familiar, hi again.

When I first got my amateur radio license, I spent most of my time in the novice area of the 40-meter band. That's where I learned Morse code and got my Morse code up to speed so that I could go to other areas of the band.
I really need to make an effort to go and see if there are still people hanging out on the novice area of the 40-meter band and slow it down and help some people along.
I think it was somewhere around 7.100

I should probably write a blog post about this too.
I should probably also mention that I'm writing this #toot with #WisprFlow.

I put together a blog post on installing #HaikuOS on a new-ish MacBook Pro. YMMV, but I would love to hear reports from other people who have and their success level on this.
I had a few blips here and there, but I've blogged the happy path that got me up and running.

yeah.. it's like the ultimate learning tool.
you can spend all afternoon looking for whatever quirk in the SDKis making you crazy, or have it point exactly to what the issue is.
I have already had to help a few folks untangle their vibe-coded mess.
My guess is that vibe coding is gonna create some good opportunities for us.
Once you get to a certain point in your career, it seems like you're only solving a few problems over and over again. Making lists of some data, changing it.

A few months ago, I made a concerted effort to rummage through all of my subscriptions and delete everything that I wasn't using.
As far as video subscriptions, I knocked that down to two from lord knows how many

I've been using #WisprFlow for the past two weeks, and it's a game-changer. The only thing I wonder about is whether users accidentally leave it engaged and it picks up a conversation in the room and pastes it somewhere unexpected. This has happened to me a few times where the cursor wasn't where I expected, and it pasted into the wrong place.

I finally started putting some blog posts together and decided to reference a link that is behind a paywall. I wanted to ensure that posting such links is acceptable on the Fediverse.
It’s important to note that neither I nor anyone I know is expecting to make any money from this post. There is no affiliate link or any profit-driven intent involved.

This weekend, I really need to check into running #HaikuOS on a #MacBookPro. I really loved #BeOS back in the day, and it seems like this would be a fun little plafform to develop apps for fun.
