Finally released my second #sailfishos applications: Peertube Sail, a client for #peertubehttps://openrepos.net/content/amol/peertube-sail
This one has also been an excuse to try to develop a solution to have a lightweight CI that can run tests without the sailfishos SDK. So it uses #dukpy #python #javascript interpreter to test the logic with #pytest and a fake #silica implementation with qmltestrunner to run the UI tests.
My plan is to release the fake silica as its own project once it's refined enough

@sergio_101@social.sixdegreesofohio.com i mean.. ARM or x86? 😅
I used to run haiku on an old x86 iBook (or whatever it was named, not the pro) and it used to run great 🎊 it's a very lightweight system

@Dialectician@universeodon.com @anttipeltola@mastodon.world That's why patents were invented. They are far from perfect but the idea is not bad: "you can get the business benefit of your research for a few years, but then you have to share it with the rest of the community"
That model is not terrible, it's the implementation that so far is lacking

@anttipeltola@mastodon.world I am an open source maintainer myself. Even on some projects with significant funding. “Volunteer work” is not a sustainable model. I maintain OSS software in my spare time and when I have the energy to do so. But that’s not what pays my bills and I honestly know zero OSS maintainers that are able to live decently purely on donations

@anttipeltola@mastodon.world I share your values, but the issue in that plan is that big moonshots and major technical improvements need multi year huge investments at loss. And that requires a company with a big enough budget that it can afford that loss.
So if we don’t want big techs we need to find another model to fund big moonshots.

true that @marting’s reply was verbose but that still doesn’t justify personal attacks.
Jolla looks intentionally blocky because it fits a Scandinavian design tradition that values solidity and simplicity over ornament. Ever seen a Volvo? Same vibe. No surprise baroque didn’t start in Sweden 🤷🏻♂️
Plenty of people genuinely love that style and see it as a sign of build quality. If you want to critique the design, totally fair, just keep it civil.
