@tompearce49@mastodon.scot I have legitimate concerns that refugees and asylum seekers are not receiving the care and treatment they need and being supported and granted refugee status in a timely manner, does that count? I have concerns that racist idiots are attacking the RNLI who are volunteer life savers and that they are making the lives of those most vulnerable hell. I have no concerns that holding a placard against genocide is a risky behaviour and a danger to society. But sadly the government disagree

@Geri@veganism.social Fair point, especially for change in party or policy, but it seems a bit different when you are doing it under financial investigation to prove that people don’t care that you have taken money from everywhere while not doing your actual job as an MP.

@pomegranate_stew@kind.social @amydiehl@mstdn.social Good to have the option. For some people working from home is impossible, they may live in a shared flat, with no space, no reliable internet, etc. On the other hand, for some it means it is easier to fit work in with school, childcare, etc as no additional added commuting time to the working day, and less stress as a result.

@vagina_museum I wish period pants had been available when I was younger, so it didn’t always look so obvious you were wearing a pad. The other big embarrassment was getting out of swimming when the boys were also there. Also that tampons don’t suit everyone, I felt like a freak for not using them.

Not sure what Wales are doing - Plaid vs Reform? Good on one hand (largest vote for Plaid), bad on the other (big vote for Reform). England are a disaster. List votes in Scotland still hold the balance but at least Reform not got any constituency seats (well, so far, and seems unlikely).

Just seen the best comment on the new layout of seats in Holyrood, to quote the Stealers Wheels song chorus:- “clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, stuck in the middle with you”. Seems very apt.

@BenartyComputer Discussed this at work on Sunday. If you don’t vote, you can’t complain about the government or policies affecting you. And in Scotland with PR, every vote counts (unlike in UK elections). Those suffragettes fought hard for me to get a vote, so I intend to use it in every single election ever.

@patrickhadfield Racism of all types of discrimination is the one that makes me most angry. These are often the most vulnerable people who have suffered because of the actions of the west on a lot of occasions and yet they would lock them up and make them suffer even more. To brand them illegals is appalling in itself, they are people, each with their own story and reason for fleeing their homes.

@RabBrucesSpider1@mastodon.scot And in general Scottish people are a tad more sceptical. Some decided to give Labour a chance in the last election, then have now realised they have changed nothing. Devolution and increasing powers were how previous Labour governments got round the desire for independence, but it’s not going to work any more. Scotland has a completely different ethos to England, that hasn’t changed since I came here almost forty years ago, and I can’t see England changing ever.

@eclectech@things.uk Glad it’s not just me that find this annoying! It’s still a big thing anyway to holiday in the UK, especially on caravan sites, centreparcs, etc. Not everyone likes heat, or flying. Staycations are cheap because you stay at home and travel locally to the beach, or hills, or museum, whatever is nearby. Holidays in the UK can be more expensive than abroad.

@DrALJONES@mastodon.social Reading When the World Sleeps by Francesca Albanese at the minute, interesting to also read about the influence of Christian Zionists in the US who believe Israel is necessary for the second coming to occur. In addition I was not aware that the definition of anti-semitism in a lot of countries now strictly does also include criticism of the state of Israel thanks to the IHRA (although presumably not criticism of the actions of the government).

@DrALJONES@mastodon.social North Korea may be developing missile capabilities but they haven’t started a war with anyone (yet) in terms of destroying an entire country and expanding into all their neighbours. Israel are literally getting away with murder, and no one seems to be trying to put the brakes on. Breaches of any ceasefire are so common that ceasefire seems pointless. And the more they get away with, the worse it gets, unsurprisingly.

@econetwork@mas.to Depends on whether you want “new” small potatoes or earthier bigger ones. Flowering shows the plants are starting to form little potatoes, if you want the biggest ones, wait until the leaves start to go yellow or wilt a bit. And others have said pile up soil and keep a steady degree of moisture.

@junesim63 In Scotland, trying to think where NHS money would go to private companies…mainly IT suppliers and procurement of equipment I would think. Most of the third sector suppliers of care etc are non-profit making, and are indirect providers of eg acute mental health support, care homes, hospices etc. Does this include the care home and care sector or just hospitals/primary care etc? Again, in some areas of Scotland it is a joint budget, such as Highland.

And of course who has profited most from the recent Iran war? Russia, both by selling more oil at higher price and providing tech/weapons. Those Epstein files could just be the US/Israel/Russia link that we have.

@johannab I am not convinced AI scribes are of any benefit. Given how much standard dictation systems struggle to make sense of the spoken word, I can’t see how AI can do any better, nor create a decent summary of events. At the moment, if AI is used, it has to be double checked for accuracy anyway, so can’t see much time benefit. Scribbled bullet points as an aide memoire are still what I use for phone consults and face to face if needed.
