Not a lot to say about myself. Worked as GP in valleys, then public health something to do with data of health events. Ignored mainly, you're advised to do the same. Meanwhile if you fancy seeing what I'm thinking this is quite a good place happy to be corrected as I don't know as much as I think I do. It's a common male fault. 🤣

A return to the post war welcome of refugees; which boosted UK economy and locally the NHS and public services!

@flargh@mastodon.social I'm glad to see the UK gets important things right: the welfare of a moggy is much more important than the pilitical ambition of a human. I hope the next encumbent remembers to the welfare of the populace as their driving principle. Monetarist economists should be bannished to West Falklands, for everyday economical training.

@broadwaybabyto@zeroes.ca regrettably the widespread myth that masks work primarily by protecting the wearer is believed by many in health care. Surgeons wear masks to protect the patient from their bugs, when the primary defemce layer, the skin, is breached. Interstingly, its the proponents of germ theory who believe most passionately that airborne transmission can't exist, except for measles, pneumonic plague, Sars, Norovirus, Rsv, TB......

@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us perhaps the answer is to swiftly pass an amendment that any claim for unfair dismissal automatically rules in favour of the employee, if case takes >6/12 to reach tribunal, with full restitution and two years salary as compensation. Watch business lobby government PDQ to fund justice properly.....if taxes on companies with turnover of more than £5 m have to rise to fund it then so be it. *Edited to set time to hear case, to increase pressure on govt.

@statsguy@mas.to re: Electricity import/export I choose to sign up with different companies for supply and export simply so it was easier to see if I had had the credit due. So far after one clitch when no credit came through, it has worked perfectly. I may be paranoid, but the buggers are intent on stealing from us consumers!

@daycoder @RolloTreadway Though I do prefer the solution chosen by all other nations in the disunited kingdom. It actually costs the NHS less (as no accounting and tax collection costs) and doesn't increase drug use.

@nusher @simon_brooke @junesim63 a very good point. If only the Godber changes in England and Wales had not been undone! The E&W position re social care including psychiatric care would have been better, and as a result of the consequentials Scotland would have more money to spend on that part of the budget.

@patrickhadfield on a similar note, it's worth noting that at a regional level life expectancy is still rising in the South East of England, but falling everywhere else. Thus it really is the rich South East living off the sacrifice of the rest of the UK. Government investment is focused on the South East too.

Having a warming coffee whilst walking my avatar, in the Fabulous Fablas Ice cream parlour in Windsor Gardens, Penarth; wondering if anyone wants ice-cream on such a miserable day. The answer is yes, two arrive after me and leave with double cones!

Who am I to question the wisdom of others? The ice cream is delicious, I must admit ....
But I will resist........?

Whilst sitting waiting for temporary traffic lights, whilst Welsh Water do some pipeline work, or more accurately contractors do on their behalf, my mind wandered to how we can incentivise shareholders and holding companies to invest in infrastructure both clean and dirty. I wondered if renationisation at capital value, currently in many cases closed to zero or negative as in Thames, perhaps replace fines with 100% tax on both bonuses, dividends etc for the company & holding co's!

@simon_brooke @junesim63 agreed and I'm disappointed the researchers haven't undertaken a similar exercise in the three other parts of the NHS. Comparing and contrasting would be interesting, here in Wales as well as chronic underfunding, we have English pressure to follow them. Regrettably many in positions in power and influence slavishly follow. I wish Rhodri was still leading us. Let's hope in three weeks the new prifweinidog will set a Wales collective approach!

@mattburgess@infosec.exchange I wonder if ministers like Streeting who were pushing AI on public services not so long ago, will both consider their positions and reflect on the public service duty to deliver what the public needs from the service, in case evidence based safety policy, rather than what profiteers want them to use.

@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk will be uninformative as the non-ergodicity of humans means the usual assumption that population mean & variance equals an individual's mean & variance is false. Hence it is impossible to define a test limit as diagnostic. All diagnosis depends on history, examination, then tests, including therpeutic trials. If the aim is patient benefit, if the therapy improves their wellbeing does the diagnostic label matter?

@ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I remember it happening. Those killed were like my eldest brother in University. Some not part of the demonastration, just going about their studies. Convinced me to move towards armed police we have seen in the UK over my lifetime; is a terrible mistake.

@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk once again I hear increasingly the belief that a definative test will decide if someone has a condition or not. This is simply untrue. A test postitive or negative alters the post test probability, compared to the pre test probabilty. In cartain circumstances the diagnosis is completely unchanged after a test, even a highly selective & specific test. With neuroatypy since it is not a disease, but rather a difference from so called normal all investigations will be 1/2

@junesim63@mstdn.social it is fascinating how the recent terrible stabbings have focused exclusively on the final two victims, who were Jewish, but the first victim has hardly ever been reported, though I believe he has been listed on the charge sheet. I do wonder if it was because it didn't fit the preselected narrative, or was it because his race and religion doesn't count? In a way I hope it was the former, but the second is a horrifying possibility.
