Trueing a 20” wheel from our Tern cargo eBike after replacing 3 broken spokes. My wife and I use it as a pseudo tandem. Possibly overloading the rear wheel by using it for 2 adults. If we continue to experience spoke breakage I may need to consider a more robust fix.

I’m not super confident in the hub either. It appears to be made by a Taiwanese company named Quando. 32 hole, 148 mm axle spacing, solid axle. Not sure where I’d find a hub that matches.

@randahl@mastodon.social The sad thing is that it’s been well known in the US for literally decades that Trump is a crook. Trump said “Atlantic City fueled a lot of growth for me”. For the Taj Mahal casino alone 253 small contractors were stiffed by Trump and joined a lawsuit. These were small mom & pop businesses, many of which subsequently went under struggling to meet their payrolls. All in plain sight. MAGA voters chose lies & blind ideology over common sense and integrity. Now the world pays the price.

@NNN@bettercities.top Interesting article. It’s definitely an issue.

I’m 74. Sadly, my wife has early-onset Alzheimer’s so had to give up her driver’s license. We live in a postwar suburb. Some facilities (healthcare & grocery shopping) are a little closer to us. I definitely wonder what happens if at some point I can’t drive.

One thing that works for us is we acquired a cargo eBike. She rides on the back while I pedal. We can get to many of our appts and shopping trips on the bike. Luckily there’s a bike path

@swelljoe@mas.to Not disputing original post but a solid operating system should have less churn than other software. Once it works just leave it alone unless there’s good reason to fix it. Kind of like the foundation of a structure. Pour it, waterproof it, bury it, and forget about it. One surviving aqueduct is 2.5 millennia old.

@kirk I’m retired now but I used a similar bike locker in Denver Colorado at a light rail station for many years. It worked quite well. As far as homeless people sleeping in the lockers it happened occasionally but didn’t seem to be a deal breaker. The transit agency required users to sign an agreement and use locks provided by the agency, so the only time a locker was unsecured was in between leases.

@billyjoebowers The US has the resources to solve many legitimate problems but many of those resources are being squandered by a corrupt, out-of-touch, incompetent regime that has a malignant agenda. The thing with Trump/MAGA/Republicanism is it’s not just moral turpitude, it’s the clownish incompetence. At every opportunity competent administration is downgraded for the sake of mindless political grandstanding. For example DHS. Noem gets fired, but look at the replacement.

@johncarlosbaez@mathstodon.xyz Thank you. I saw part 2 but for some reason missed part 3. It explains composition and sinister representation of the shaded customer on the far right. Art appreciation faces different challenges in the age of the internet. On the plus side we have access to vast amounts of reference information at our fingertips. On minus side information overload can make contemplation and introspection more difficult. Society can be seen as changing rapidly in ways that are both good and bad.

@johncarlosbaez@mathstodon.xyz Even though the perspective is demonstrably correct, I wonder why Manet painted this specific composition. Was he trying to make a point with an unbalanced composition? Is an understanding of social conventions of the time essential to understanding this painting? I didn’t immediately notice the shaded male figure on the upper right facing the barmaid. I unconsciously focused my attention entirely on the barmaid’s face while trying to “read” her expression.

@Edelruth@mastodon.online @carrieberry@mstdn.social DJT’s problem from very early in life is his profound conviction that he has no responsibility for anything. Need to show up for school and do your homework? Nah, Daddy’s rich and will buy your way out of that problem. Massively screw up in the Atlantic City casino business? No worries, just hire some lawyers and offload the debt to some suckers who invest into your companies. It’s been that way for most of his life. Now that he has dementia it only gets worse.

@timbray@cosocial.ca I wonder if there are deeper issues not mentioned in the article? I have heard anecdotally that one of the problems of the COBOL culture is that the practitioners are literally dying off without fresh talent replacing them. Which leaves billions of lines of rock solid but terribly obscure and hard-to-maintain COBOL code. Not to mention the proprietary nature of the underlying hardware architecture.
