There was a massive rainstorm in Connecticut on Sunday - we were not home so we didn't see it in person, but the chart showing our sump pump's activity for the last 48 hours tells a pretty good story.

Update: I received multiple suggestions to use Kanidm instead, since it is also lightweight but has built-in support for replication. I'll go that route!

@grumpydad@infosec.exchange @cR0w@infosec.exchange At a job some years back one of the maintenance team members placed a bucket of 'ice melt' near an exterior door because there had been a large snowstorm and the concrete outside the door built up ice every night.
They labeled the bucket "not eatable", but I don't remember anyone responding "challenge accepted".

@sue@glasgow.social We've been getting repeated invitations to DevRelCon (in a few weeks), presumably because attendance this year will likely be extremely low. I almost made a plan to go just to see how terrible the overall mood would be.

A sign made by a marketing team who does not understand the difference between percentages and percentage points. A discount of 0.05% of a mortgage rate is so small it is almost not worth asking for.

A salad of romaine lettuce, croutons, shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano, and 'house' vinaigrette is not a Caesar salad.

Today I had a lovely DIY success: using tools and guides from @iFixit@mastodon.social I successfully replaced the battery in a 4 year old OnePlus 9 Pro which was otherwise in perfect working order. My wife's phone was purchased at the same time and also needs a new battery so I'll do that one tomorrow. We will keep using these phones until the unfixed security vulnerability situation forces us to do something else, although that might be switching to @GrapheneOS@grapheneos.social .
The guide said 'moderate' and predicted one hour for the repair, and that was accurate. The second one will take less time of course 😁

We are rewatching Six Feet Under and I had completely forgotten about Rainn Wilson being in the show, and his character being the prototype for Dwight Schrute.

@bkuhn@fedi.copyleft.org At the risk of pointlessly poking the bear, I truly do not understand your conclusion that the submitter's proposed text constitutes a 'further restriction'. It does not restrict anything.

@joat@mastodon.scot Indeed. I really get annoyed by advertising which claims that something is the "most affordable". Affordability is a very subjective thing and will be different for everyone.

Given the recent LG Terms of Service changes, many LG TV owners will need signs like this in their homes, so there's a huge market opportunity!

@dillyd@turtleisland.social Modern units, in addition to their various terrible features and reduced build quality, have this type of alarm built in. Ours has a red 'power outage' indicator on the control panel which has to be manually acknowledged.

@chandlerc@hachyderm.io I have not used them for this purpose but have used them for ballast in bags of food in our immersion circulator. After the first time cleaning them I got a small mesh laundry bag (usually sold for washing lingerie) and that worked well.

@bkuhn@fedi.copyleft.org OK, so you're saying this is a restriction on a downstream user of the software's rights, which makes sense. I had not previously thought of 'further restriction' applying beyond the initial recipient/user of the software - the proposed 'further permission' does not apply any additional restrictions to them.
