Dear manufacturers of sleeping bags: I know it might cost roughly $.038 to do this, but just assume that the consumers of your product will NEVER be able to roll the bag in such a way that it fits back in the bag it came in. Never. I challenge your executives to roll one and get it back in the original bag. Just make the bag 20% bigger and let us live our lives.

@ifixcoinops@retro.social I think the real final nail in the flash coffin is when Steve Apple refused to let it onto the iPhone.

@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io Borland Turbo Pascal is the first programming language I ever learned. Am I old? Yes, yes I am.

@jalefkowit@hachyderm.io The solid rocket boosters still blow my mind. It's literally just a tower full of explosives that, once lit, cannot be stopped. No control. No ability to shut them off. Once they start, you're going wherever they take you.

@Kroc I did all kinds of fun microcontroller programming both personally and professionally for over a decade, and almost none of the tech bros have any clue how to write an atomic function, to setup registers to make an I2C port work, or to configure a phased locked loop. All of this is lost, like tears in the rain.

@gedeonm@mastodon.social I'm a lifelong chiefs fan, and I am also sick of hearing the name Kelce. I'd rather hear Steve Debergs name.

@callmeray@techhub.social @Marrekoo@urbanists.social @monospace@floss.social @thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io Glad to be among the greybeards. Computing has come a long way since I started. The Intel assembler manual is well north of 1000 pages at this point. I remember reading the ASM manual for my C64 and it was like 20 pages long.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online I'll never understand the infighting in open source software. You can like Fedora, or Slackware, or Mint or whatever. Kde vs. Gnome....we're spoiled for choice. If it works for you, great, you don't need to shit on anyone else for their choices.

@virbonus@sueden.social @thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io Also, when I was in college, a professor forced us to write a checkers program using punch cards just so we could feel the pain. I got it all done, and when I was walking back to my dorm room, I dropped the box of cards on the ground and it all went to crap. I just picked them up and threw them in the garbage.

@virbonus@sueden.social @thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io Hah! I win then, because I know both MIPS and x86 assembly. Dabbled a bit with ARM, but can't claim I know it well.

@virbonus@sueden.social @thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io They were numbered, but since it was already graded and I had nothing to run them on myself, I just figured I'd chuck them rather than try to reorder them. Same thing happened when I finished a senior project that used a PIC18F on a breadboard. It was on the upper bunk of my dorm and it fell off and all the pieces just fell off. Chucked that as well.

For no specific reason, I hope Mark Andreessen gets a nasty paper cut today.

I know it's ill to speak poorly of the dead, but I hope the devil is cramming hot coals up Lindsey Graham's ass right now. He was a vile, feckless, horrible human and I'm fine living in a world where I never have to hear from him again. Sorry if this offensive, I'm only human.
NPR, on the other hand has nothing but nice things to say about him.
