@Lana@beige.party I have already updated all of my 401K elections to invest in funds which will not include SpaceX. Hopefully most people are able to do the same. My employer uses Fidelity and gives us a list of funds to choose from and where we can make changes pretty easily.

Then I double/triple/quadrupel-check my initial thought and find I was often right. Am I arrogant for saying this? Maybe. But it also scares me when I see people plunge head-first into a thing which appears to me to be pure folly. Perhaps because I may be Neuro-divergent (never diagnosed and never felt the need)? Perhaps because I never had that formal education to give me a false sense of self assurance? 3/5

Regardless of the reasons behind how I come to my conclusions, I struggle to understand why so many people chase fads that are demonstrably worse than the solutions and technologies we already have. Be it LLMs, or virtual machines, or containers, or reactive programming, or the flavor-of-the-week frontend framework. 4/5

@Larvitz@burningboard.net I remember working at my first start-up and our CTO decided on Linux desktops for everyone and they all ran KDE2.x with Netscape Communicator, Star Office, and ... I forget the name, but an Open Source IM client. Almost everyone loved it and were amazed at how stable and fast it was.

@adastra1930@mastodon.social We just bought a house and on the disclosure it stipulated that the current owner would take the doorbell. I thought it strange and asked the agent. Turns out they have a Ring video doorbell and my response was "Good riddance!" I've never had a cloud connected home security device and never will.

@Larvitz I went a different direction. I have #OpenVPN on my servers and only allow SSH from OpenVPN connected hosts. I originally started with #WireGuard, but too many public Wifi block WireGuard.

I wrote a new blog post about using #Traefik and #Podman together for declarative reverse proxy management on containerized workloads. https://blog.devenphillips.dev/posts/getting-started-with-traefik-and-podman.html

It's a really good solution for my #selfhost needs. It makes it simple for me to add #LetsEncrypt certificates for all of my workloads. The plugins also allow me to configure things like OpenID authentication with my #Keycloak server.
