I have 3 apps with support for spellcheck on my new install of Linux with Gnome: Zen (Firefox), Gnome Text Editor and LibreOffice. They have three different amounts of dictionaries I can choose from: 19, 0 and 1. Because of this I have to assume that they all download their own dictionaries. If I add a new word to the dictionary in one app it will not work in any other app. This is annoying! Would love to see work on shared dictionaries across all apps! #firefox #gnome #LibreOffice #linux

Just putting this out there... a few days ago I needed to do the "monthly" clean up (after three months) so while I was making a backup of our centrally-stored data on the old Linux desktop, I let #Ucheck do its thing on our two Windows laptops, then finished off with a quick Microsoft Store update, CCleaner registry clean and ShutUpWin safety check. Imagine my utter shock, therefore, when I went to edit an ODS spreadsheet yesterday and was confronted with EXCEL instead of #LibreOffice !!! Unless Ucheck did it deliberately (seems unlikely) something in Windows Update or WinGet actually *uninstalled #LibreOffice * then *installed #Microsoft365 / #MicrosoftOffice instead*! It happened on both Windows laptops. That is flabbergastingly low even for #Microsoft... I checked around and there were a couple of other people who complained about the exact same thing over the years...

@kdkorte@fosstodon.org It's ideal even for 'self-employed' or 'single worker' enterprises. I switched to Linux and FOSS at home while I had an office job using Windows, MS Office, Adobe & Quark. So when my side-hustle became my job I was already familiar with all the software I needed, without spending a single penny. #Linux #LibreOffice #Inkscape #GIMP #Scribus #GnuCash #Firefox #Thunderbird

I really like #LibreOffice, and I like supporting #foss software (and I really really don't like microsoft). Write is great. Calc gets it done. #impress, however, is half functional and half a dumpster fire of anti-usability. So many basic things require half a dozen clicks or just can't be done in bulk, which means they often require literally hundreds of clicks in a presentation, while digging into menus over and over. Impress is going to give me RSI all by itself. I sometimes find references to far more usable options in previous versions, and that makes it even more frustrating. If you are here to tell me about a simple 13-step process to set up what should be available by default, I'm open to it but will forget it on other machines or when I upgrade this one. If you are here to make a comment that boils down to "so you hate open software?" or "So you would prefer Microsoft?" you will be blocked for lack of critical thinking and reading comprehension. #vent #frustration

#Microsoft : Hey remember when we put #Clippy in #Office and everyone thought it was annoying and useless and stupid and it became a subject of mockery? Well, what if we did Clippy but EXTRA and called it something cool like #CoPilot ! This time it will be different because #AI is REVOLUTIONARY! Everyone will LOVE it!

LibreOffice breaks download records on a non-feature: v26.8 pulled over 1M installer downloads in its first week (not counting distro repos), and The Document Foundation has since declared "no AI" an official feature stance, pointing to community plugins for anyone who wants it anyway. Their bar before defaulting anything: user-controlled execution, nothing leaves your machine without permission, zero telemetry, no vendor lock-in, fully optional. https://manualdousuario.net/en/libreoffice-download-record-no-ai/ #libreoffice #foss #ai
