""Starting with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (#RHEL) 10.2, #Firefox and #Thunderbird are delivered as Flatpaks by default. If you install RHEL with a graphical desktop, your browser and email client will now come from the #RedHat #Flatpak registry instead of traditional #RPM Package Managers (RPMs). New #FedoraPodcast is out, and this one is for everyone who has typed dnf install epel-release and never really stopped to think about what they just turned on. We sat down with Carl George, the #EPEL Team Lead at #RedHat, to get into what it actually is. We talked through the golden rule, what's changing for EPEL 11, and how the project is governed. If you run #EnterpriseLinux, EPEL is worth understanding! Have a listen: https://fedoraproject.fireside.fm/57 #Fedora #Linux #SysAdmin #opensource

I've published some patterns for making your own tiny, provenance and governance controlled #ubi #universalbaseimages based containers for in-house #zerocve container images ; whilst retaining your full support and lifecycle guarantees from #redhat here : https://codeberg.org/aenertia/rhhi-comparison the tl;dr is for a lot of industry the dream of being able to consume and use #fedora #hummingbird / red-hat hardened images is just that. ubi-micro based pipelines give you pretty much all the upsides and few of the downsides of ingesting raw upstream bleeding edge, whilst still giving you the standard support case/2 am phone path. And for established enterprises is probably the right patern to counter all this LLM weaponization chatter.

Linux Foundation ja Red Hat lyövät hynttyyt yhteen mm. Palantirin kanssa. Yhteistyökumppanista tulee heti mieleen, mitä myös Linus Torvalds sanoi: “This is *NOT* some kind of "social warrior" project, never has been, and never will be.”

IBM closed down 25% yesterday and I'm not sad about it. IBM's relationship with Linux has always been transactional, never ideological: 2001: $1B Linux investment = sell more mainframes to cost-conscious enterprises.2019: $34B Red Hat acquisition = cloud credibility against AWS/Azure, not FOSS commitmentPost-acquisition: Layoffs, integration chaos, projects deprioritized when margins compressed. Think StackStorm.150,000+ patent portfolio = "defensive" until it wasn't convenientEnterprise-ified open source = made it palatable for corporate, not community IBM never saw open source as a values proposition. It was always a go-to-market strategy: Linux > sell mainframesEclipse > sell WebSphereNode.js > sell BluemixRed Hat > sell cloud/AI servicesHyperledger > sell blockchain consulting When enterprises started cutting software budgets for AI hardware, IBM's "commitment" evaporated. They couldn't pivot fast enough because they never believed in the mission. They believed in the margins. Real FOSS support comes from people and organizations that value software freedom as a principle, not a business strategy. Companies that co-opt community work for profit and abandon it when economics shift deserve to lose to actual FOSS projects run by people who believe in the mission. IBM's decline is the consequence of treating open source as marketing instead of values. #IBM #RedHat #Linux #FOSS #OpenSource

I usually explain the difference between open source and free software as “open as in open for business versus free as in freedom” but maybe I should start using “open as in open to profiting from genocide” instead. #RedHat #openSource #Linux #IBM #Holocaust #israel #genocide #ethnicCleansing #apartheid #settlerColonialism

BEGIN RANT

I used Linux, many distros*, as my primary desktop and everywhere else from 1998 to 2012. I used Unix starting in 1982, with Macintoshes off and on since their introduction.

In 2012, I moved my primary "desktop" to a MacBook. I liked it a lot, and a Mac is still my primary desktop. Since I retired in 2015, I maintain very few servers.

So my Linux sysadmin skills have atrophied.

google news | IBM, ServiceNow team to bring AI to legacy enterprise systems AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. IBM and ServiceNow are partnering to help enterprises modernize decades‑old, interconnected legacy systems by layering ServiceNow’s AI‑Platform workflow on top of existing infrastructure and using IBM’s AI, data, and automation tools. The collaboration will offer three services—application modernization using IBM Bob, Watsonx.data and Java runtimes; autonomous infrastructure operations that embed Red Hat Ansible, Instana, Terraform and Vault into ServiceNow IT workflows; and data‑governance capabilities that combine Watsonx.data with ServiceNow’s Data Fabric and catalog—scheduled for release in the second half of 2026. By leveraging IBM’s expertise with mainframes and large‑scale legacy applications together with ServiceNow’s workflow and agent‑management platforms, the joint solution aims to enable AI‑ready operations without replacing existing systems. CVE-2026-43284 / "Dirty Frag" .. Antoher one of those nasty local-privilege-escallations. Quickfix for Centos/Fedora based systems: printf 'install esp4 /bin/false\ninstall esp6 /bin/false\ninstall rxrpc /bin/false\n' > /etc/modprobe.d/dirtyfrag.conf && rmmod esp4 esp6 rxrpc 2>/dev/null; true Caution: That also effectively disables IPSEC and AFS client support. But it can easily be reverted by removing the file when a patched kernel arrives. #dirtyfrag #cve_2026_43284 #security #centos #fedora #redhat
