It's not at all confusing why bosses keep pressuring workers to use #AI despite it's poor quality... but people don't want to face the reality of the reason.
1) They want use AI tools that promise to enable cuts to human staff.
2) They want to work out the kinks that prevent number 1.
3) They want to improve the tools to enable number 1.
4) They want to push out staff that would prevent number 1.
5) They want to figure out HOW to enable number 1 in their business workflows.

Not bosses, though. Bosses *love* AI and there's plenty of evidence that they're positively *harassing* the people who work for them with demands to use AI in their work:
https://www.reddit.com/r/antiwork/comments/1weztw9/anyone_elses_boss_obsessed_with_chatgpt/
Beyond the widespread belief that AI is what you use if you don't care about quality, insisting that people use AI is weird for another reason: *why should anyone care which tool was used to do the job*?

Tough, measured & clear-eyed talk from our Prime Minister today. 💪 Nice to see a backbone & integrity in our leadership.
Also noticed the improvement in his #French language skills.

@GeePawHill@mastodon.social I read a horror book called Nathaniel when I was a young teen. As I was reading it, I was too scared to see the cover, which had a big skull behind the words:
NAT
HAN
IEL
I always kept it face-down.
I finished reading it. And donated it to get it out of my house. 🤣

BG3 Final Act Spoilers
We've played the game by mostly avoiding looking things up and living with our choices, but this was just awful.
After much friendly debate, moral considerations and decisions on what would give a MEANINGFUL ending to our 300 hour, 5 player journey, it was a bit of a standstill - no GOOD choices seemed open to us.
So I offered for my husband and I to take a previous Save point, do the Rafael quest controlling our friends' characters, to get the Hammer.

The friends seemed open and appreciative to that option. But boy oh boy is this looking like it's going to be a significant time sink. Just getting into Rafael's base is a quest in of itself.
I myself am skeptical that the Rafael quest will be any more disturbing than already seen content. We've seen some pretty awful sights in this game so far.
But we're doing it... because no way do we want to kill the Prince nor give the Emperor the stones.

What a circus!
A friend of our group warned us away from the Rafael storyline thinking that the content was gruesome enough that some of us would be bothered. So we never did that.
We arrived at the end with some heavy debate - some of us trust the Emperor and some of us absolutely do not. Either way we didn't want to sacrifice the Githyanki prince and we didn't want the Emperor to have all the action.
We managed to get a Game Over message for the first time...

Legal implications?? How about danger? What happens if 10 of these mirrors are pointed at the same place?? 20? Will we be starting forest fires, evaporating lakes, drying out farmland? The military applications are terrifying.

@avilewis@mstdn.ca The only excuse anyone has given me for this project is that Canada needs the wealth that selling our oil gives us, in order to invest in green policies.
But there's never an answer a pipeline for oil is the investment of choice, instead of things that create jobs & build on our skills here. Many experts say that Canada has the education & expertise to get into sectors like high tech manufacturing.
Things where the investment = jobs & furthering military & climate objectives.

It's mind blowing that the profit-seeking ghouls won't even wait for #AI to be confirmed useful & accurate for mundane uses before trying to force it into medical workflows that involve people's lives as quickly as they can.

@maxleibman@beige.party I am just begging the news media industry to use the very time tested monetization method known as freemium. Give me the basics for free - whet my appetite - then offer extras, upgrades or deeper dives on topics you've hooked me on. I just don't get why anyone would pay to read an article that I can't even get curious about first.
If your monetization depends on me not being able to just click back & check the next source - good luck.

I'm sure AI data centres are next on this game plan: $100 million dollar investment for a huge building that brings like 7 permanent jobs, raises electricity costs & guzzles water. But it's an "investment" for Canada right? Right??

@arstechnica@mastodon.social I'm kinda surprised they didn't just quietly reduce disc production & slap sales on online copies of games. Some "Oh shoot it's sold out at the store but hey it's 10% off online!" would have stealthed this onto people with much less kerfuffle.

And the US legal system & political ecosystem don't seem able to handle a president who just skips congress & does what he wants & civil servants just obey. If illegal orders are executed by the machine of government - then what?

@davidnjoku@mastodon.world I'm actually quite embarrassed & critical of English speaking countries (I'm Canadian) and how unwilling we seem to put in even small effort to pronounce people's names correctly or to figure out uncommon names. I feel bad when people feel pressure to pick an Anglophone name in order to make it 'easier' for North Americans.

The kids now are in charge of their own. They roll a shirt, shorts, socks & undies into a roll & masking tape around it, then stack into the suitcase. A couple warm items. PJs, bathing suit. Done.
Boys are easy - deodorant & toothbrush gets packed the morning of.
We aren't a multiple pairs of shoes per person family & my own beauty products are pretty minimal.

As someone who studied like a fiend, stressed out like crazy, and would never, ever cheat on a test, this absolutely BOILS my blood.
The thought of either being disadvantaged by a curve that now includes a TON of cheaters OR being forced to retake an exam I stressed & studied for is totally crushing.
More people need to nope out of post-secondary & go the online self-directed education or apprenticeship routes.

@claytribune@mastodon.social Honestly we went a little nuts with side quests. We did everything except the Companion quests (maybe a tiny bit of the early parts because we were already in the relevant places).
Because it took so long to find time to play... the plot kinda got lost in the weeds. I wish we had skipped most side quests & done the campanions instead - but we were already modding it for 5 players & companions were saved for everyone to do solo. But who wants more at this point?? 😫
