@baldur@toot.cafe The area where LLMs make sense in gaming, in my opinion, is the enrichment of NPCs behaviourally and conversationally by in-game models, as well as for employing smarter automated opponents in strategy games. The latter has been called "AI" for long anyway. In both cases, small specially trained models can make a big difference.

In the case you refer to, an investment fund is owned by the sovereign (basically the state). It's a class of which there are many instances.

Is this deterministic? Even if the model is trained exclusively on the literary genre that matches the game's plot?
Can there be no safety filters? Providers of LLMs-as-a-service are doing this already.
But on a more philosophical level, are racist slurs on the tongues of fictitious characters in a fictional setting much different from them in a novel? Assuming the game characters are bound to its scenario and aren't allowed to dwell on immersion-breaking conversations.

That will be more computationally affordable with time.
But even a subset of these features should invigorate gaming.
But until then, with smart scheduling, some of these functions can be performed ahead, at lower priority processing and utilising times of low system-load and caching them. At least so long as they are not dependent on previous choices/outcomes in the story.
