There is documentary evidence for espresso machines in the UK in the 1950s So WE invented the flat white and it was re-invented by OZ/NZ. Which explains why the one I had in Cardiff was so disappointing whilst the rest of their coffees were fine. I've also drunk coffee across Europe before I was. aware of the (re)introduction of flat white. And again the coffees were fine. So not a universal rule.
