@stefano Client had a new CCTV system installed, old one was accessed via web page or an app directly from a phone. New one does all that if you configure it correctly, but they set it up so you didn't need any firewall rules or anything. So I checked the firewall... and I asked "why is this making multiple connections to Hong Kong?"

@UnholyOrdnance@mastodonapp.uk alttext is a description of an image, linked to the image. You normally see it by hovering over an image with a mouse based system, or tapping with a touch screen system. This does depend on the instance and client though. My system will often put an "alt" spot on an image which has alttext, for example, so you have a set spot to tap. The use of it is to help people, those who can't see the image, and to help the poster of the image to clearly explain what the image conveys.

@MarfyMazie@yiff.life @Beckydog@hydaelyn.coerthansnowstorm.online Yeap, you won't find a premade adapter, as due to the most common use would be to plug a 1363 device into a hotel's lighting feed, and risking overloading it. Therefore no one is going to sell a commercial version due to the liability.

@MarfyMazie@yiff.life @Beckydog@hydaelyn.coerthansnowstorm.online 5A is the most common, you can stil buy them new (even on amazon!) as they are used in this exact usage - to have a controlled light with out being able to plug a "normal" plug (BS1363) into it. So you find them to this day in hotels, etc.

Replying to
@MarfyMazie@yiff.life @Beckydog@hydaelyn.coerthansnowstorm.online For the light: 546 is old, but still valid - 1363 itself is over 80 now, being first introduced in the late 40s. 546 has multiple plug/socket types, the most common being 3 and 5 below the (massive!) 15A. A modern light (led) isn't going to get anywhere near the capacity of a 3A, let alone a 5A 546 plug. Using it: If you don't want to mod the lights, I'd get the right plug and a single socket extension and use it to make a (short) converter from 546 to 1363, and mark it very clearly for lights only.

@TechTangents@dialup.space None standard height drives was a mess for a bit. At my school our BBCs had drives ranging from full height, though half height, to 1/3rd heights.. and some really horrible drives about 1.5cm tall. I think they were based on a toshiba mech. You put the disc in, pressed it home, and pressed an eject button at the upper left corner to lock it, which stuck out about .5cm. To eject it, you pressed the eject button again, it came back out the .5cm, and the disc was sprung out about 2cm from the drive (hitting your hand pressing the eject button, of course..). Horrible design, terrible read quality when loading software.. when we took a machine home for the holidays (parents were teachers) I would go from class room to class room to select a BBC to take away and avoiding any paired with that drive unit!
