@georgepenney Part 3 off 3 At about ten feet distance and doing all of 35MPH this 15lb rabbit launches itself at my nether regions and snaps its large, razor sharp front teeth together. If I close my eyes I can still hear that sound. But it had slightly mistimed its bite; otherwise I would have become a world famous soprano. Instead it just head butted me in the Crown Jewels and ran over my now prostrate carcase closely followed by my 35lb border collie. I still have nightmares. //END

@georgepenney@sunny.garden 🧵 I am going to tell you about the time I was the sole survivor of a rabbit attack. We had a border collie, the only dog we've ever had from a pup, though we have rescued a succession of dogs since then. He was great with the kids, and sharp as a tack, but when he was about two years old I changed jobs and he did not get enough walks. So at the weekends I used to take him to some rough ground that was slowly being turned into a landfill site, lots of trees and bushes, full of interesting wiffs and most importantly well fenced and gated. We would use the public footpath that crossed the part that was still woodland and not bother anyone. On this particular day he did what he always did, disappeared like a bolt of lightning the instant I took the lead off him. No big deal. I could hear him running around barking blue murder all over the place. Situation completely normal. I knew that when he had had enough fun and was almost exhausted he would come and find me. //CONT

He's chasing the biggest buck rabbit in history straight towards me. And they both have to keep coming. The path is very narrow. Both sides are lined with impenetrably thick brambles with nowhere for Super Bunny to turn off. 'Interesting' I thought, ''this bunny has not spotted me yet' I thought, 'I wonder what he will do when he does' I thought, 'he can't avoid me, there is not enough room on the path to go round me' I thought, 'he can't turn to either side and he sure as hell isn't going to turn around and face the Jaws of Caleb the destroyer.' I had a small win on the catering front yesterday. But it all started two days earlier. Is that good meal planning? On Sunday DLW and her pal went to the picturesin the afternoon. They wanted to see some film with a Huge Ackman or something. So as timing proper food would be tricksy they brought back Fish & Chips from the Chippy. We always buy several extra portions of chips, always without salt or vinegar, on our infrequent visits there. Why? Well I am not overly fond of their chips. They are too soggy for me, usually too cold after spending a good ten minutes in the car, but they do suit the fish. Then I freeze the extras. 12 minutes in the airfryer, from frozen, and you have the crispyest, fluffyest chips ever. Win Win. Two easy cooking days out of three. #Food#Cooking

@aroundthehills@mastodonapp.uk Back in the dim and distant past I used to run meetings with a colleague who was a retired GWR Signalman and later Station Master. Almost every Time I stood up to start (I like to be bang on) he would hold me back and say "It's not late enough to start on time yet!" The logic behind his thinking stems from having to deal with irate passengers who had just missed a train that left 20 seconds early.
