@timixretroplays@digipres.club @len@nyan.network Personal DNS Filter would work for the ads as long as it is running all of the time and for video PipePipe (or NewPipe) is really good but I don't know if the person using the phone would keep it updated frequently enough. Both are in the main F-Droid repository.

@timixretroplays@digipres.club @len@nyan.network then again if they click on everything updating PipePipe would be easy enough as the inline updater prompts through the process. The only issue is that they now know how to install applications independently and any possible security issues that can go along with that.

Hello people in France! I am currently traveling through here this week with @mfeilner@mastodon.social on a FOSS and Fediverse tour type thing and we are looking to meet people on our trip. So ping us if you want to hang out!

There were a lot of these stickers at the start of the trip, and now there are a lot less of them. If you want one or a full set (each one has a different surprise) you need to get yourself over to the @grommunio@mastodon.social booth at building 12 at #glt26 #glt2026 #grommunio

Question for #bugstodon and sorry I don't have better pics, but can anyone tell if this is a centipede, millipede or other? It overwintered in a Sarracenia pitcher plant in the greenhouse.

Edit- @mfeilner@mastodon.social and @twizzt@sauropods.win ID'd it as a centipede. Thank you!

I usually don't feed them as sunlight and whatever wanders in from the river take care of it, but I have some fish food that I use to make a small pasteball out of and set it on a leaf for plants that need it. The timing is a bit awkward this year for this much handling (the pinguicula are in dry dormancy) so they might need a bit extra when they wake up.

@skinnylatte@hachyderm.io that sounds like it was really fun! Yes, it can be really hard getting spicy food in Germany, even when you request it extra scharf. I am in Ireland right now for a month and haven't tried that here yet. @mattblaze@federate.social

@mattblaze@federate.social I'm from California, living in Germany the last 10 years and yes, many people in Germany can't handle spices (though horseradish doesn't seem to have an effect). I once ordered nachos in a well regarded cafe and got a small plate of microwaved store bought salted tortilla chips with a slice of processed cheese food product and a couple of lonely overly-brined jalepeno bits for color. It was six euro. There is a place in Berlin that can do it well but I forgot the name. @skinnylatte@hachyderm.io

@animalculum@scholar.social yep! The bees and wasps around my area are generally really skilled at navigating the pitchers so they can get the most nectar possible without falling in. They can also be retrieved with a chopstick or kebab skewer to climb back out. The nectar is really nutritious and one of the best sources of quick energy.

@the_turtle@mastodon.sdf.org I think though- this is hard to explain but I think there might be something fundamentally different in the way some of our brains are processing generated information. "Uncanny Valley" is generally used as shorthand, but doesn't convey the actual, physical fatigue effect, even when used for humor. The synthetic graphics have humor, but are still tiring to look at. The same as reading synthetically composed text. I don't really have the vocabulary to articulate it though. @pheonix@hachyderm.io

@Eetschrijver@mastodon.social @arclight@oldbytes.space @bert_hubert@eupolicy.social I am far from being a professional European (immigrated to Germany from California about a decade ago) but straight up in a chilled glass is a personal preference, though it is also pretty good with club soda (the traditional Campari Soda) or high carbonation sparkling water. Also, I really enjoyed this video and thread.

@hobbs@dobbs.town it's working with my Garmin Venu 3 so far and I can access the features I use like enabling and disabling specific sensors and the reporting looks pretty clean interface-wise (it should populate over the next day). I used Gadgetbridge a few years ago also (with AsteroidOS) and it seems to have grown out a lot since then. Thanks! @mhoye@cosocial.ca

@the_turtle@mastodon.sdf.org don't get me wrong, as my own anecdotes I had the first Agfa consumer digital camera and a very early adopter of new technology (I also maintained the first edition of the plasma display FAQ and worked in emerging/experimental hardware at SUSE). I also did early video streaming as an Akimbo partner. So I know there are bumps. But whether it is general lack of technical maturity at this release stage or something else- there is still a fatigue effect. @pheonix@hachyderm.io

For those observing August 04, 2026 (the date setting of "There Will Come Soft Rains", written by Ray Bradbury in 1950, inspired by a poem of the same name by Sara Teasdale in 1918) here is a short cartoon from 1984 based on the Bradbury story. It's in Russian and works with translation but you probably don't need it. If you are not already familiar with the story, a warning that it is very dark/bleak. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quyaaszg6jc or https://fediserve.de/preview.php?v=quyaaszg6jc

The pings were running a bit too dry this last season in the pots they were in so I am trying them straight in an overflow tray as a shallow bed and not directly on the window sill this time. I set the drosera capensis seedlings in the same tray and it seems like it should work together as a wicking system. I also soaked the sphagnum moss that was with it all and stuck that in the tray bed too.

@NicelyManifest as long as the ereader isn't fully glued over the mainboard for water resistance they are generally easy to work with and can be handled by a local repair cafe, hackspace or friends with tools :) Kobo/Tolino had been gluing down their boards for a few years and though I'll miss the waterproofing I'm glad they have opened them back up. @tante
