Thank you to @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de members for this clear decision to ban #GenAI #VibeCoding projects in their service.

  1. You must not share projects that mostly consist of code written by "generative AI"-tools […]. Such projects having an unclear copyright status […] and furthermore have little safeguards to ensure that they do not include harmful code […].

Proposal Assembly 2026: ToU extension to prohibit LLM-extrusions

Here is the proposed addition for the ToU that @Gusted and I agreed on post-assembly for the upcoming membership vote. 🙏 The discussion for this proposal is available for Codeberg e. V. members in the forum: https://forum.codeberg.org/d/139-resolutions-for-assembly-on-codeberg-taking-a-stand-a...

Thank you to @godotengine@mastodon.gamedev.place for responding to people deluging the #GodotEngine project with #AISlop from #LLMs. Their clear statement of #NoAI policy: “No autonomous AI agent use or vibe coding. […] No use of AI to generate substantial pieces of code. […] No AI-generated text in human-to-human communication. […] All PRs must be reviewed and approved by a human before merging. […]” https://godotengine.org/article/contribution-policy-2026/ May more #FreeSoftware projects do the same. #ArtificialStupidity #HumanLabour #Godot

the moment you put a company in charge

Then maybe they should stop expecting to be in charge, and recognise the not-for-profit maintainers currently in charge are already doing a good job. Certainly good enough that many wealthy corporations are built on that work, as it's currently done.

Just #FundTheMaintainers to do the job they're already doing.

But no, those with the money can't conceive of funding someone without also asserting control over what they do.

The best time to migrate your site away from #reCaptcha was when #Google assimilated it. But, if that wasn't enough for you:

“Google didn’t demand iPhone users install Google software to pass the test. Only #Android users who refuse Play Services get locked out. The asymmetry reveals what this is really about: not security, but ecosystem control.

“[This means] accessing basic web content requires running Google’s software and transmitting data to Google’s servers.”

It's effectively an experience as a second-class citizen @karen@floss.social. The rhetoric asserts that proprietary protocols and systems are freely chosen. But for those who opt out, who choose #SoftwareFreedom, we find *our* lives burdened by the proprietary systems *others* chose without our consent. And those who accept the shackles of proprietary systems, don't bear the burden of finding those alternate paths because everything assumes you've put those shackles on, and is unreliable if you don't.

OSS people have not produced world-class software.

Okay, I don't know what world you inhabit that has no internet, no world wide web, virtually no programming languages, and lacks the operating system which runs effectively all infrastructure computers.

Always need a company around to do the important but boring stuff.

What deluded, ahistorical, sophistic, dehumanising horseshit. I think I'm done here.

the OSS community […] Lots of people writing software, with no clue, then expecting everyone else to adopt it.

What astounding hubris and fabulation. Who's expecting what now?

I invite you to depart to Galt's Gulch and leave #FreeSoftware behind. Make sure you disconnect from anything we made as not-for-profit organised people.

We'll look forward to news of how you get along with no software made over the past half century by any of the pesky humans that didn't get paid.

That maintainers are doing a good job is something I'd take issue with.

Then your issue is with the wealthy owners of hugely profitable corporations, that stand on the backs of those maintainers and the jobs they do today.

Can a better job be done? Sure, no disagreement there. But the maintainers now have long produced world-class software that powers some of the biggest corporations on the planet.

Corporations should simply #FundTheMaintainers and stay out of the way.

They're obliged to do that by #Copyleft regardless of network connection, @jpm@aus.social. They redistributed a #GPL work to you, that obliges them to inform you of your #FreeSoftware rights in that work. Glad to see they're doing that much! There are lots of GPL violators out there. (As @conservancy@social.sfconservancy.org well knows.)

If you send the data to Google for doing this

Yes, and that counts as not having control over your own analytics.

The correct solution to “must I warn my users, if I send their data to surveillance corporations?”

is: do not send your user's data to surveillance corporations.

we would like to understand if and where users struggle with the service. Or is that not done with cookies and/or would those class as essential?

Yes, is the short answer.

If the party who controls the website wants information about how the site is used, they have full access to the logs that are recorded by the site while each visitor is using it. GDPR has nothing to say against that, go digging through your own site logs as much as you like.

With Mozilla Corp making such a mess of the open web in recent years, I'm just glad there is still Safari being developed in competition to Chrome. Safari is not #FreeSoftware, but at least its necessity on iOS provides *some* incentive to actually uphold a standards-based web. @karen@floss.social

If you were fired @bigethan@sfba.social that sucks and I'm sorry. Did “AI take your job”, though? What job were you doing, and is an (I assume #LLM) really doing that work sufficiently today? What seems to be *much* more common is: no, an LLM can't reliably do the job, but a salesperson convinces your boss to fire you, and then implement an LLM that manifestly *can't* reliably do your job. While that doesn't bring back your job, it does place the blame where it belongs. @bitinn@mastodon.gamedev.place

#USDoJ ruling reiterates: Google must sell #Chrome to a competitor. Much better would be to mandate #FreeSoftware license, so it stays in community control and all the #UserHostile #monopoly crap can be freely stripped. But splitting the business is a good start. https://arstechnica.com/google/2025/03/doj-google-must-sell-chrome-android-could-be-next/
