I've been thinking about #permaculture for a long time now. Not doing anything about it, just thinking.
Well, for once it came to my brain at what seems like an appropriate time in the early spring. I'd like to take steps to get rid of the last remnants of my manicured front and back yard and grow some stuff that is more native to Ottawa. Maybe even grow stuff that would produce food as well and help pollinators.
Since this is an Ottawa-specific server, I'm wondering if the locals have any suggestions on monographs, websites, or other information on finding stuff that would grow especially well in our local environment?

After my daughter's dance class at the Sportsplex, the kids decided to wander around and I took them to the #squash viewing gallery. The non-verbal lad is ENTHRALLED.

@srgower@ottawa.place I agree with your take. I mostly stream and listen to audio books when my children allow me in the car. If I do listen to radio, it's usually CBC Radio 2, or 1 if I just want to hear something in the background.
Pre-Covid I used to listen to TSN1200 religiously, the hosts felt like old pals of mine joking around, and being self-employed it helped in lonely office hours.
But Bell being Bell keeps chopping and firing people and trying to replace local content with syndicated slop.
I wrote my major research paper for law school about the history of CANCON, MAPL, and radio; and it's been a hundred years of broadcasters being forced by law makers to generate their own local content rather than buy premade shit from the states. We're long overdue for the government to step in again.

If I'm putting it on a gas grill, do I put it directly on heat or do I put it to one side of the grill while heating up the other burners?
I was just worried about that sudden direct heat making the stone crack.

What my college did to circumvent this was get rid of essay questions altogether and make the full course multiple choice. Which, BY PURE COINCIDIECE, means a whole bunch of us sessional instructors didn't get a new contract the next year.
